I have heard that not a bad host where you can use PHP for free (providing you don't go over a quite small bandwidth, so it might be OK for a start, then when you have the money, you can move onto something bigger) is at Portland, might be worth checking out...

If you don't mind paying around 10 quid a year for a domain name (you can't get everything for free), I reckon (although I might be wrong) you can go get a .co.uk domain from Free Parking, and then point it at the free Portland service... I think they let you redirect it for free.

I would hope you've been given the details for their FTP server - you can either use a program such as WS_FTP to connect to it and use that (I'd recommend that method) or type ftp.hostname.com or whatever in the address bar of explorer and that should connect you.

okey dokey. the portland people recommended cuteFTP as good software, before i got a chance to read your post i started downloading it. ive got all the details (user name, password, domain name, ftp server) so i'm gonna try and upload a couple of pages to that when its downloaded.
