It's one of those things where every case is different and you can't really judge I don't think until you've been in a similar situation yourself.

I completely agree - man or woman, unless you've been in a situation where you've had to make that decision, for whatever reason and whatever decision you came to, you can't possibly make a sweeping statement/judgement on this.

Exactly.

Personally I think mothers should have the choice - but then there is always a risk of the system getting abusued.

is that the general feeling in the uk? i know in the us we only really hear about the extremes- all abortion is murder/women should be able to do it whenever they choose too. i think most americans would say that abortion is never really the preferred option, but sometimes is the best choice in a bad situation.

I'm not sure. We don't really make as big a deal of it over here, although it can still hit the headlines in the very extreme examples.

Well I can personally say having been in the situation myself, I am against it unless it could potentially harm the mother for medical reasons. Abortion is murder imho.

One of the more serious polls..

People do it for a good reason - maybe they aren't ready for kids or just feel that it would completely ruin their life.

Everyone has a different view on it. I just think this place isn't the best place to share it.

How can you have been in the situation yourself?

i wouldn't judge anyone else but I would be devestated if someone I got pregnant had one.

I do agree with Adam (again!) that this is one of those things thats not really needed on here.

I've been with someone who had an abortion. The most painful thing i've been through in my life.

Adam wasn't being sarcastic.

Even if there were sarcastic remarks posted (which I hope there wouldn't be) you shouldn't post something so personal on a message board IMO

I think we gathered that.

Sarcastic comments do have their home. I think that's why we don't like threads like this on here.

Having said that, just start a topic about studio clocks or the new studio 2 mix desk and some of us will be deadly serious.

tbh its nobody elses business but the woman/girl in question & yes unfortunately there are some women that will use it as a form of contraception  & imo they shouldnt even have the chance to pollute the gene pool with their offspring & should be sterilised

See alot of people say that but I strongly disagree. If the baby was already born, but the mother decided she couldn't bring it up and wanted to kill it, would it be ok then? I don't think there's much difference-just because the baby hasn't been born it doesn't mean it's not alive.

When you word it like that it's hard to argue. Which is why people with your view do argue this way, beacause the emotional shock of a death of a real life baby is hard to argue against

Personally, I think you are wrong because there is a complete world of difference. You might as well compare killing a 40 year old to an abortion, because fact is in the small space of time that a pregnancy entails; the development of a new born baby from a 10 week old fetus is a vastly wide one.

Unfortunatly you cannot generalise in circumstances like these because each case is different and you have to judge it on its own merits, which is why it annoys me when a lot of anti-abortion lobbiers argue with unusually shocking cases trying to change the world, which should in my opinion be left down to Governments.

I know for a fact that you will pretty much disregard much of what I have written, because lets face it you aren’t going to change your opinion because someone on a message board argued against you. But I’d just like to point out that I am neither strongly for or against abortion but in a democratic society all women should ideally have the choice and nobody should have the right to take that away. Of course we don’t live in an ideal world….

(Once again showing that pretty hefty political debate should be left off of Radio 1 DJ fansites)

Actually, that's pretty much the definition of born - brought into life:-

http://www.answers.com/born

Although, this usually turns into more of a spiritual debate, as to when a being can be classed as alive and when (or if) they have a soul etc, which is why it is never resolved. Personally I think we should all just ask the great Flying Spaghetti Monster what is right and get it over with.

Crawley i assume from your point of view you are male & you clearly have no concept of what bringing up children entails? Either decision is the toughest one a woman ever has to make( you should be grateful you never have that problem) & im sorry but people like you only add to the pressure these women are under

Crawley says that he/she has been through something similar themselves, so they must have a good idea
