Anyone close? Console?

My girlfriend saw the smoke from her house in Flitwick before she left for work this morning.

The Beeb are saying it was heard as far away as Holland... I'm probably 30 miles away and didn't hear anything but then I suppose it depends on where the wind's going.

I was working on a website this morning, but I don't remember hearing anything, I didn't even know about it until you mentioned it.

Someone's said that with a fire of this size you can't put it out, you can just contain it.

Can't they use explosives?

What, to put a fire out? Genius.

Thay'll probably have to let it burn out.

Yes, using explosives sucks the oxygen out of the air, starving the fire.

And fire doesn't suck out oxygen itself?

It fuels the fire. No oxygen, no fire.

Yeah, I'm an early riser. I was updating a website for my uncles band, taking all the frontpage crap out mainly.

No oxygen, no explosion.

No oxygen, no fire. An explosion uses up all the oxygen in a short space of time, "snuffing" the fire.

Read up on a guy called Red Adair, he was very adept at this technique.

It's about the only thing they can do.
They just showed some ariel views of it all. And there are some containers that are 3 times as big as the white ones that could go up. It's a good job it happened when it did becuase if it had been say around 10am tomorrow morning. Things would of been a lot worse.

He was either a complete nutter or a complete genius, or both.
I remember watching a documentary many years ago, he would also use a converted crane to 'drop' a plug into a jet of fire to block a gas/oil valve, and he only had seconds to do it.
