The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Well, here's a handy way to find out. Simply dial 2580 (all the middle keys) on your mobile and hold the phone towards the music for 15 seconds.

Within minutes you'll get a text from Shazam with the name of the track and artist. It costs 50p and you don't even have to register. You can view all the tracks you've tagged at http://www.shazam.com and also buy the track/album.

Very clever stuff. The technology behind it is the latest in pattern recognition and is programmed to recognise 1.5 million songs.

It's taken two-and-a half years to get here, and a lot of complex mathematics, so that it can differentiate between cover versions and originals.

or just go on the net, type in some of the lyrics into google, as well as the word lyrics and find it for free

Rather pointless and a waste of money then. I'm sure it's only songs that have been Popular by well known people. So when it comes to other songs your buggered really.

its the idea behind it thats good - the fact that someone had the genius to do it.

Yeah maybe good but what happens if you just hear a song then think after "hmm I liked that but don't know what it is"
Then it's not a recent new song or one your likely to hear again then by using this system your not going to know but say you remember a line from the song you can look it up. Then the idea becomes usless.

some people can't always be bothered to go on the net. remember- not everyone can use the internet.

Ah yes, the point is to make loads of money from the stupid people that ring it.

yeah, I know. I'm one of the select few. Although I think now that I do a lot more (more work, more school stuff, more radio stuff, more band stuff, etc) and with (hopefuly!) passing my driving test very soon, that my parents may get me one.

Not sure though.... Not bothered either.

An even better way is to post some lyrics on here and 9 times out of 10 uglybob will be given you the name of the track by the next day.

Chris wrote:I just tried it .. it worked as advertised. Recognised Blue Fly By - no problem.

how do you know if it's right?, surely it could be completely random and we'd be none the wiser.
its a conspiracy i tell you.

How do I know if it's right? Because I sat and listened to Blue on the radio, held the phone against the speaker and got a text message telling me it was Blue, which obviously was correct as I already knew what was playing.

That's pretty cool :)

It guessed MC Hammer Can't Touch this.

Tried it on Freelance Hellraiser Stroke of Genious, it guessed it as Strokes Hard to Explain.

I'm not trying any more at 50p each!!!

You listen to MC Hammer? Or is this just another embarassing record collection of years ago?

What happens if you sing a song down the phone?

I'm still not convinced there's someone at the other end listening and typing the lyrics into a lyric search .. it's very clever otherwise.

I tried to find an oldish song to catch it out.

It can't be using lyrics because Stroke of Genious is Christina Aguilera's lyrics, it guessed it as Strokes.
