I'm fairly certain that that's his home server, and upload speeds on home connections are usually quite low (~20KBps).
You hit the nail right on the head there, Console. It's run off my poor DSL connection, and if BT were to get their finger out of their arse, I probably wouldn't have such a sucky upload. It's a matter of economics I'm afraid. As much as I'd like to have a 100Mbit leased line to the server so people can leech clips at top speed, there's no way in hell I would be able to afford that. And anyway, I can't afford to pay for hosts and fork out more in extra bandwidth charges if I have people linking to files on the server from other pages (which could happen with the take that clips such is their following, or rather was).
Plus, I don't want the hassle of waiting to upload this, upload that or deal with the robots in the customer service department to fix their server that has died and left my files unavailable. I prefer to keep it all in-house and under my control for these very reasons.
If the download is slow, then go away for a bit from your computer - have a walk, make some tea, browse the web for a bit, phone a friend. Occupy yourself and do other things - don't just sit there screaming at the monitor for it to download faster. It'll be finished by the time you return.
I've managed to shift over 300MB of Take That MP3 on this connection today, and I'm sure if that was on a faster upload, it would be much much more. I expect to do a lot more in the coming days.
I don't have any of the chitchat prior to 8:45 I'm afraid. Sorry.
