Now theres no doubt that this thread is going to have its fair share of criticis, with such comments like " you didn;t put much thought into this" or " you calll this a productive thread" or my personal favourite " you tw@ this thread is bollocks"...and theres nothin wrong with a lil bit of healthy criticism!! infact i bet there are some posters who are even cringing at the title well all i'll say is "settle pettle" , the purpose of this thread is not to see how many posts i can get or how many pages this thread can reach, i am just generally interested in this topic, as i'm a bit of a movie buff, and i wanna hear peoples choices, as i will find it interesting!! right without further a Due i will name my top 5!!....

Although it's only fair that i say such gems as "don't tell mom the babbysitters dead" and all the Ernest films such as "ernest saves christmas" along wiht all the Turbulence movies , just missed getting into my top 5 by the skin of their teeth!!

(5) without a shadow of a doubt, this film broke down a lot of barriers in special effects and opened the door for a new brand of movies!!! and it also spawned two other films, which were to be quite honest...a big pile of balls!! and were not half as good as the first...and the reason i likrd it was bcuz it was unique and had never been done before!!!...my number 5 is....Jurrasic Park

(4)My Number four stars Edward Norton, one of my favourite actors, it was hard hitting and it is brutally honest with a lot of the issues in the movie, and deals with such issues which other movies are afraid to go near!! and i think thats why i liked it so much!! Edward Norton is fantastic in it, my number four is...American History X

(3)as i'm a bit of an action man myself, i love action flicks!! and this is the mother of all action films...and stars the king of action himself...big arnie!! ! and i make an exception in this case as the sequel to this movie is also included in this , as it was as good if not better than it's predecessor, my number 3 is....The Terminators

(2)Although i dnt like putting these next movies up here as they are so predictible and are gonna be in everybodys top 5...it's hard not too, as they are classics, like number 3 it includes all the films in it's collection as i believe they got better and better!!! my number 2 is...The Godfathers

(1) now you'll notice that lord of the rings didn;t make it into the top 5, simply because the ending pissed me off!! and i know it's going to continue you on and evryting will come together...yadda yadda yadda..BALLS!... the endin really got my panties in a bunch!!thats why i refused to put it in my top 5! now if the ending had have been different maybe it would have give this next film a run for it's money!!! This next film is not a film that many ppl i know liked and i don;t think got the recognition it deserved, but i loved it, it had action, comedy, drama and in my opinion the most important thing to makin a great film, a great twist that you don;'t see coming!! it again had one of my favourite actors starring in it, Edward Norton!...my number 1 film is.....Fight Club

well thats my top 5, nothing very surprising...infact it's quite normal and boring!! the reason star wars aint in there is bcuz even tho i think they are great films and they are indeed one of my all time favourites and would be in my top 10...there is always a lot of hype for them especially the new ones and i always come out dissapointed even though i enjoyed them!!...i still come out dissapointed!! and i think a lot of the time they are made out to be a lot better than they really are, but they still are top films...right now it's your go!! fire away!

OK James King, I like this idea, I love films as well. I would have to go for:

8MM
Se7en
The Green Mile
The Sixth Sense

and number one has to be:
The Shawshank Redemption (Morgan Freeman is the best actor in the world.)

There are so many that only just missed out - the American Pie movies, Scream, Independence Day, Face Off, Con Air, The Die Hards, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining..... What can I say - I love my films!

thats not a bad top 5...i was thinking of a few of them two!! i took the shawshank redemption off for the god fathers.."hey forget about it"!...and i think that isxth sense was also a descent show, i liked the twist at the end, kept me thinking for a while!!!

5: Southpark:Bigger longer and uncut : this movie is the * mad notes poking fun at the very people who dare to besmirch South Park, it is the best musical i have ever seen and has moved on sooooo much since the swearing humour that we had during the first two series. The devil and Saddam Hussain thing was very funny even if a but repetetive towards the end. All the main Characters are all on key in this movie but maybe the best was The Mole. It is hard to believe that the "Blame Canada" was pipped to an oscar by * Phil collins................Fcuk Phil Collins

4: Sexy Beast: Man this is a mutha of a film and without doubt Ben Kingsley was the bet supporting actor last year at the oscars and maybe the baddest baddie i have ever seen, with the exception of Sheila Broflowsky in South Park of course. Ray Winstone also was superb in this film and even Ian Mcshane(Lovejoy)was good in it.

3: Training Day: Denzel is good but Ethan is better. a film based around a simple concept(a training day)and was in my opinion the best film of last year including Moulin rouge. There are a few camoes i.e. Macy gray:Shite, DrDre:Shite and snoop Dogg:Amusing, but IMHO Ethan Hawke is better than Denzel but Hollywood loves a baddie.

2: Dogma:This happens to be the best of a good bunch of Kevin Smith films and is very funny. The best actor in this film is probably Matt Damon or Alan Rickman who plays a Londoner down to a tee. Also the storie line is very good if not confusing and the meaning of life will be lost if god is proven wrong. Also Jay and Silent bob are everpresent in the movie which is always worth a watch.

1: Goodfellas: Oh my god what a film based on a true storie about Henry Hill a gangster (who has recently released a cook book)Every actor in this film is brilliant but my personal favorite is Joe Peschi(Why home alone and Lethal weapon Joe, Why) who basically plays the same man in each gangster film but for a one trick pony what a trick. Some of the lines in this film are going to be remembered for years i.e. "one day two boys from the neighbourhood carried my mothers groceries all the way home, Ya know why? it was out of respect" also the music from the film was superb, a pretty flawless film unlike Ray Lliottas film career.

Also Freddy got fingered is worth a mention

I always hate this question because with so many films around I can never pick 5 out that were my all time favourites. Then when I do pick them out I look at the list and think well actually I liked "..." better than "..."!
So I'm afraid I'm not going to post my top 5 films. Sorry spanky!

STEPHEN
P.S. I agree with Katy that the posts are too long and I generally can't be bothered to read them. SORRY!

I can't think of a top five, I really haven't seen too many films recently!
Erm, I loved American Pie, soooo funny, and The Sixth Sense, it was really great. And, well I really am not fussy, I like most films!

No way can i make a top five, but some of my top films are:

The Matrix
The Green Mile
American Phsyco
Dead Man On Campus (Teen Movie, not many people have seen it)
Blade
Resident Evil (most people hated it, i thought it was superb)
Fight Club
Schindlers List (very depressing film, but its one of the best films to have ever been made)
Starship troopers (as a kid i managed toget in to see into this film, i must have only been 12, and the greasy kid doing the tickets didnt even care - SUPERB ACTION)

Theres loads more

Much like spanks, I don't think I could limit mine to a top 5, but certainly my "top fav films would have to be:"

As mentioned above, Shawshank Redemption
Another one mentioned, The Green Mile and also Schindler's List.

I am slightly surprise that no-one has mentioned the utterly brilliantly acted, wonderfuly produced and superbly directed, Forrest Gump.

Dogma is also pretty good, although I wouldn't put it as one of the "best films ever," and for now, that's all that I can think of.
