Aled, on BB, when the mics flick to the garden noise, what sort of topics are being discussed? I know it's contraversial stuff, but can you give a bit more of a hint?

No-one's asked us yet. But, yeah, I'd be up for it later on in the series.

It'd be either legal stuff. Conversation between people is fine, but once it goes out on radio or TV even if it's showing a conversation it gets held up to stronger rules. Saying for example "I got food poisining from my local chinese called "the Chinese ship"" is fine in conversation but once it's broadcast they could sue unless you had proof it was definitely from there.

Other things are talking about personal stuff about friends or family who did not choose to go on Big Brother so are entitled to privacy and then finally you've got the obvious swearing which can't go out.

and I'd imagine if they started speaking about certain brands of fags for example, not only would that be classed as product placement, but your not allowed to advertise ciggarettes on the telly?

So basically it's the BB production team covering their own, and potentially the housemates, backs. Cheers!

That's between him and his bosses. :?

So it wasnt an elaborate stunt then, as the BBC Spokesperson has said ;)

All he needs to do is point to 2 bits of paper. 1 showing the ratings over the last 2 years, and the other showing his attendence record since doing the breakfast show.

The bosses wont give him trouble, he's Radio 1's biggest (no puns please) asset. They don't want to get on the wrong side of him.

Slippery Slope.

Well, I dont obviously imagine him walking into a meeting and doing that, but its for those 2 reasons that I dont expect (and hope) anything more comes of this. I mean, Coxy never got fired or fined for being late/missing a show and look at her ratings :D

Weren't Coxy's ratings better than Chris's (at least at the start of her run)?
By Nicky
#229583
Not to my knowledge, but I could be wrong. She was on a downward spiral for a long while. Also, at the start of her run, it was a slightly different market due to the amount of stations on air back then, compared to how many digital stations are about now.

Anyway, enough of hijacking this thread from me.

Same here. To get back on topic...

Aled,

What are your thoughts off reports in the media today that the BBC have been advised to sell of Radio 1 and 2?

I obviously have my views, but to comment on something which sounds political would be something I'd have reservations in doing.

Lets just say maybe those people should ask WHY Radio 1 and 2 are doing so well. It wasn't THAT long ago that BBC/Commercial audience split was 50/50. I just know we've tried to remain as creative and keep our audiences as central to everything we do as much as possible over the last couple of years. Just an idea.

Aled, why did J.K. and Joel have to stay on air today? Surely Dave should be considered capable of performing a D.J's role, when he's been Chris's sidekick for so long, and also has his own show with Chappers. If Chappers didn't turn up one day I presume he would do their show alone, so why not the Breakfast show? You, Rachel and Dave hosted the last half hour recently, so why not allow you to do the whole show? I enjoyed today's show, but I think having just the team without Chris would have made for an even better one.

I dont think Dave can use the desk to be honest as i remember chris trying to teach him and he still fluffed and pressed the wrong thing. Mind you i suppose Aled and Rachel and maybe Dom know how to use the desk, Aled?

The show without JK and Joel would have been pretty cringeworthy. If Dom was there with Dave throughout, less so - but he would have had news and travel to compile etc. Dave and Rachel as a double act? I don't think so.

Hey Aled - Any chance of you starting the lurgy game one time this week - sounded loads of fun when it used to randomly happen. Could even take some photos and stick them on the enhanced podcast?

Or just stop mentioning it on the radio - thats the cheaper option surely?

Secondly, I wish Chris wouldn't read posts on the messageboard - That one day I commented about the show, I thought it wasnt great. Don't get me wrong - all the other times ive listened, I thought the show had been ace.

He doesnt need to rant for 8 minutes about the messageboard. I'm sure Chris has had enough neg. feedback to last him a lifetime - Me saying that show was awful is probably the leasrt of his worries.

After his last encounter with the messageboard on the chat room - he should know better. Chris should really take into account the amount of time and effort some people put on here talking about the show.

Surely - the neg. feedback on the show - helps both the presenter and producers of the show to improve that area that feedback was given on. I get the feeling that everytime he looks on here, he feels the need to moan about us.

he probably just looks for the negative comments sometimes to give a reason to rant, however there are increasing numbers of posts that do suggest that people just focus on the negative points and dont mention the positive which can be frustrating to the most patient of people. Not saying this is the case but this is what it sometimes feels like.
