I agree in principle, but given that 50 people died in a suicide blast, a landmark agreement was made on whale hunting, and about a dozen other big hitter stories were aired that day, is it good journalism to put a few drunken idiots beating each other up on the front page?

I think what he's trying to get at is that it's not the reporting on the story, it's the prioritization of something which is so ridiculously not-newsworthy over deaths and global issues which makes those two particular papers more suitable as bog paper than news paper.

Right, so you're asking to see the front page to see if Mafro is lying (I can't think of any reason he would be.)

It was directed at Bumheed7.

Ask your average football loving Scotsman if they agree with my views, I think you''ll find that you, in your attemp to curry favour with the majority of the board members, would infact be in the minority who claim to be happy for England to win.

There's no point throwing your tuppence worth in now anyway mate. You're obviously not a true lover of the Scottish team.

Mafro wrote:Front page of the News of the World on Sunday reads "Tartan Barmy: Scots beat up English fans home and away, mindless yobs have shamed Scotland after two savage attacks on English football fans".

Nothing to do with a bit of provocation on the behalf of the English fans? You should know by now that the English and Scottish versions of the News of the World will happily turn their back on their country. Showing the footage of the Brit soldiers beating up iraqi rioters as an example which springs to mind.

Topher wrote:Yes but it is a cliché to blame any story you don't like on sh*te journalism, especially if it's a Sun or News of the World story. While I don't like the paper myself, I don't think it's right to rubbish the story before you've done your own research to ensure it's really not true; just because you don't like the story, or indeed the paper, doesn't mean it's not true (granted it also doesn't mean it is true.)

See above....

Do youse still ALLBACK your team now? Another poor performance from the 2nd favourites. Mon the Swedes, even Larsson!

Carragher + Handball = Robbed.

What more can I say, except that Rooney's a huffy big eared bastard!

Can I just add, the commentators comment of the match was - "England never won their group in 1966, incidentally"!

I didn't think England played badly bar a few dodgy moments.. Now I'm not the most knowledgeable person in the world on football by any stretch of the imagination but I thought it was far more encouraging and yes we had some luck but so did they - probably in fairly equal measures.

Yeah, better display by you fellas, but the Swede's were still robbed. Couldn't believe how much the commentators brushed off the obvious penalty though! Imagine the roles were reversed, thats all we'd hear for the next 6 months! :)

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway. Nothing is
moving. Suddenly a man knocks on the window.
The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What's going on?"
"Terrorists have kidnapped 3 England Soccer Supporters.
They're asking for a £10 million ransom.
Otherwise they're going to douse them with
petrol and set them on fire.
We're going from car to car, Taking up a collection."
The driver asks, "How much is everyone giving, on average?"
"About a gallon"

Seven points and Ecuador in the second round. We'd have taken that without a doubt two weeks ago.

Only real negatives were obviously the defending from set pieces (aaaargh) and Owen's injury. To win the World Cup without your most prolific striker is going to be extremely tough. Owen is the player who scores against the big teams so that is a huge blow.

As for Hargreaves, I thought he played really well actually. Rooney is getting there and the shape of the team was a lot better.

Whytie, I'd love to meet you. Please come down to York, and stand within 50 yards of the city walls after sundown..
Let us know where you'll be, please. Oh, and if you could wear something bright, preferrablly some
concentric circles, blue white and red would be nice.

Ta!

1. wasnt a penalty. ball to hand. no way he could have done anything at that speed.
2. 1966 was mentioned alongside loads of others dates, so as i think ive said before, scottish paranoia.
3. england were better and sweden didnt really challenge other than from corners.
4. with an injured owen, nowhere near fit rooney, rubbish crouch and walcott who svens afraid to bring on, theres no way england are making it to the semis

This is just an example of what one select group of similar thinking people think.

whytie wrote:Why don't you try shutting up? Its you lot who are keeping it going. Infact why don't you just pull on your red devils pyjamas with the big number 7 on the back, set your Man U alarm clock for school tomorrow and climb into your Man U bed in your Man U themed bedroom and go to sleep. That way I might get some peace.

Any valid points you make become worthless when you post such drivel.

This is the biggest piece of hypocrisy i've ever read on a forum.

whytie wrote:Did it ever dawn on you that everyone hates cheese burger munching fat yanks who know jack about anything outside of their over-fed, murderous, death penalty supporting nation.

You seem to think it's ok for you to discriminate against people from a different nation, but not for people to criticise anything Scottish.

I realise that your comeback to this will not actually have anything to do with what i have wrote. I see you as a neanderthol completely lacking in brain power. You are the sort of person who will not take any of my points on board i'm sure. At least the more enlightened members of the board can nod their heads at this thread and direct another laugh in your direction.

The reason Scotland is such a poor economic power is that their 'citizens' spend all of their time showing their disdain for England. Maybe if they could just get over the fact that England will always own them, they could move out of the dark ages and progress past the stage of being neanderthals.

To keep those neanderthals who had somehow survived until the dark ages in some deep dark Glen in Scotland from coming and stealing all our Jam Scones. It seems, however, that one or two have survived even to this day, and are taking out their frustration at the lack of Jaw bones to hurl, on us.
