Chris began today's show with a round up of the big weekend sport. He congratulated England on making Euro 2004 and Scotland and Wales on making the play offs. Chris watched the Switzerland - Rep of Ireland match on Saturday. Ireland got beat 2-0 and Chris was not happy. He said they were rubbish and it put him in a right bad mood. (Granted, only for a couple of hours until the England game). As the Rugby World Cup is now underway Chris tried to sound like he knew what he was talking about and congratulated England on their win against Georgia yesterday. He forgot to mention the other home nations matches and said his only knowledge of rugby is the players who do the Haka on BBC 1 between programmes.
Today is Day 1 of the all new Moyles ‘Lose weight for Breakfast campaign’. Chris said he has to look good behind the mic for his new job and is aiming to lose weight, with help from Rachel and her trusty Weight watchers points. Dave is also trying to lose weight for some reason. Chris said according to the daily points allowance he still had 21 and a half points left today when he went on the air. He was discussing after the news with George how he should use these 21 and a half points. Rachel suggested crisps, a chocolate bar and a choc ice - and George added a carrot and a couple of glasses of wine. Chris said no as he didn’t drink while on the air, only beforehand. Dave said he had loads of points left. Chris asked about his breakfast. Dave said ‘Oh I wasn’t counting that’. Dave had a sausage, bacon and egg muffin and Chris had to explain to Dave that Weight watchers points last for the whole day. Chris said he had discovered there was no points in Marlboro Lights however.
Dave was keen to point out that him and Chris weren’t on a diet, just ‘being careful’. Chris said he’s not going to Rachel’s weight watchers sessions as he doesn’t want to sit in a room full of fat women. Some bloke on the text said he lost 4 stone using Weight watchers. Chris said if Dave lost 4 stone he’d be blown away by the wind, whereas Rachel would look good, which she didn’t seem too impressed by. Rachel wants to lose 2 stone and has already lost half a stone. She has a weigh-in on Wednesday and Chris said they should go down to her class and record it.
It was George from Newsbeat’s dad’s 60th birthday on Saturday. She bought him an olive tree as a gift. Unfortunately she has since found out it doesn’t grow olives due to the UK weather climate. It’s the thought that counts. It was also Chappers birthday on Saturday (I share it with a superstar, my God - edit Bob) and Dave bought him a Manchester United Lunchbox. Chris reviewed his Celebdaq portfolio again. Following Paddy’s advice on Friday to sell all his shares in himself and Sara Cox, they have both now risen to over £3. Dave said he doesn’t actually think Paddy understands how it works. Chris pointed out that Scott Mills is £1.36, still 28p short of Dave on £1.64.
Chris and Dave talked about Emma Bunton who was on T4 yesterday. Chris doesn’t like her new song but said she was looking well and he kept staring at her loverly knockers. Chris’s girlfriend Sophie is not well so he left her at her mums and drove home while listening to the Sunday Surgery last night. As a result there was a short round of Monday Surgery calls as Chris screwed up his timings. Stuff today included ‘What ringtone should my mum have on her phone?’, ‘Should I have 4 or 8 cans of Stella tonight?’ and ‘Should I take my girlfriend to the pictures or out for a meal tonight?’ (Dave said pictures so you don’t have to talk to her). Chris played Sexed Up, the new Robbie Williams single. He moaned that he still hasn’t phoned into the show, although I thought he’d stopped all that since Robbie called him a twat at Knebworth. Chris also had Vernon Kay as a special guest today after it was announced that he is joining Radio 1 from January to take over the Backstage show from Rajesh. Before Vernon came on Chris spent his links impersonating him and finding faults in today's Daily Star article about Vernon moving to Radio 1. Chris also put on his best Bolton accent and impersonated Vernon screwing up, by turning the mic up really loud and putting on loads of feedback.
Vernon Kaye, the bastard offspring of the couple Mick Jagger and Blue Peters Peter Duncan joined the show. I wish Tess Daly had married Sebastian Coe instead. Chris said that June Sarapong is funny. She is tee-total. Chris cant remember meeting her in 1998 when she was a friend of Baldy Greg. Chris thought that she has lost too much weight. She spends her money on magazines instead. Vernons previous radio experience... none. He is perfect then to Radio 1. Vernon said his favourite night out was the Hacienda in 1990. Vernons door stopper is a brick from the Hacienda. The honeymoon was postponed because Bolton were playing Middlesborough the day after the wedding.
They put Tess and Vernon on the big screen for a kiss. His chair flipped up and he fell on his arse. Chris said he watched Sky Sports Soccer AM for the first time ever and saw the colonel telling a joke about him. He said that Tim Lovejoy hates his guts. Chris said that Helen Chamberlain is lovely though. Vernon talked about the England match. Dave said that Alpay's next match was the Villa derby against Birmingham.
Vernon said he was watching Hollyoaks instead of watching Ireland. Chris said he doesnt know why they give them character names. He said they should just call them Blonde with Big Knockers 1, Knockers 2. Chris cant believe that they havent wheeled out a car wash or something gratuitous to show off their figures. Dave reminded Chris of the S Club 7 washing a car. Vernon thought of Hollyhooters, a new restaurant.
Sean, who chatted up Emma Bunton, texted Vernon telling him not to go on because Chris was taking the mickey out of him. Chris said that the team must have confidence in him if theyve given him one hour a week. Vernon brought up BBC filling a gap in the schedules on Sunday afternoon England 4-1 Holland from Euro 1996. Chris said that he bought the 5-1 defeat of Germany on DVD. Chris knew all the scorers because he has a towel with all the scorers on it. Dave had a go at Nick Barmby. Chris brought up the fact that Leeds Ladies beat Everton Ladies 7-0.
Vernon was going later for a * to celebrate. Chris introduced Lamacq and Pearce to Kaye. Chris played the exclusive first play of No Doubts new single, a cover of Talk Talks 1984 Its My Life.
Chris mentioned the Manchester Allstars American Football team, which made Vernon laugh, as he played for them in the Junior team. Chris had a top new feature called Radio 1 Afternoon Mystery Sound. Someone called Colin from County Down didnt get the game as he said it was a dog. Vernon has never been to Northern Ireland. Im not convinced, im sure he has been on Patrick Kieltys show. Vernon scoffed Ferrero Roche's whilst Dave did his link.
