They are dropping like flies this week as today it was Producer Rachel’s turn to be off ill. Chris thought she had caught his gastroenteritis but she said to Dave she had a bad cold and a stomach bug. Aled is on holiday so today’s line up was Chris, Dave, Elly (who’s depping for Aled) and producing was Joe Harlem (who was depping for Exec producer Ferg who is also on holiday). Joe said the odd word on air but was so far away from the mic you could hardly hear him anyway.
Later in the show Chris called Rachel to see if she was listening. Chris said she sounded pathetic when she was ill (she did sound really whiny) and she said she had only been listening 10 minutes since she woke up. Chris asked her what she’s thought so far then and she said as it was not Chris talking, but the news and 2 records, excellent. Chris is fit and well again however and said he’s got a bit of a beard on the go at the moment, which Dave said made him look quite homeless.
Most of today’s show was devoted to Mini Pops, a quiz sent via e-mail to Chris and Dave at about 1pm. They said they were so engrossed with it, it was suddenly 2.55 and they thought they'd better get into the studio. They tried to make Mini Pops available to get online but there were a few problems as it didn’t appear on the website it was supposed to be from, and the guy who runs that website is German (it later turned out he was just a Brit living in Germany). Dave offered to speak German to him as he did it for GCSE. He only got a D though which Chris said wasn’t really much help. Finally they managed to get it online and you can download it (note: you will need Excel) from

Tonight is Capital Radio’s 30th birthday party and as a former presenter Chris has been invited. He said he is thinking about going along with Pat Sharp and his mate Simon Ross (another former Capital DJ who now works for Radio Aire in Leeds). Chris said if he goes he probably won’t recognise anybody, even people who worked there while he did. Dave said it would be just like people at Radio 1 then. Chris said Dave was just as bad at not knowing who people are at Radio 1. Dave said no he wasn't and challenged Chris to test him. Chris pointed out some random people he didn’t recognise through the glass outside and in the other studios, and Dave passed the test with flying colours by knowing who they all were. Chris said they were easy ones to get though. Chris watched the supposed sex on Teen Big Brother on Channel 4 last night. He said he’d seen more sex in a monastery and more action on Trisha. He added ‘No offence love..I don’t look through your windows at night or anything’. Chris said he was so much more mature than the BB contestants when he was 18. ‘I was living on my own abroad in Luxembourg....granted I couldn’t make a cup of tea or wire a plug.’
Dave said he still can’t. Chris said he’s just about got to grips with the tea but he asks his dad or Dave if he needs a plug wiring. Chris watched The Beautiful South on Channel 4’s Carling Homecomings the other night and said he loves them. Dave doesn’t but Chris said he was just jealous because Chris had a better musical taste. The link somehow turned into a first gig, first record debate and Chris said one (either your first gig or first record bought) was always crap and the other great. His were Nick Kershaw at The Queens Hall in Leeds and Irene Kara, the theme to Flash - what a feeling. Dave’s were Wham live in Hong Kong and a Duran Duran album. Chris doesn’t like the Kevin Lyttle record and says he thinks he has an awful voice. Nothing quite like bigging up that playlist is there. Chris found some toilet paper in the studio and asked what Jo Whiley what was getting up to in the morning. Someone also e-mailed in to tell Dave the golden gates in Warrington are being knocked down. Dave said there is a good takeaway opposite there. Chris asked Dave when was the last time he was in Warrington. Dave said he drove through it on the way to an Everton game a couple of years ago. Chris asked how it looked and Dave said the same as ever. Chris said they might turn Dave’s guide to Warrington into a feature.
Bobs review here is very short as all my links they were helping listeners out with the minipops quiz.
