It might just be me (cos let’s face it - it normally is) but I can’t decide whether or not today’s show was superb... or just plain dull. I’m mainly talking about the Chris - Dave height debate, which was entertaining but took up far too much air time. You’ll hear plenty more on that later though - for now it’s all about Roonaldo. Dave reluctantly said yes he did see the Man U - Fenerbache game last night, and credit where credits due - United played well. He said he didn’t feel proud of Rooney though, the player that his club had nurtured onto the European stage. The disassociation begins now then eh? Dave said he was sitting there on his sofa last night remembering the happy times of Wayne in a blue shirt. He said it just wasn’t the same, and a bit like seeing your ex with her new boyfriend in that respect. Dom said Dave wouldn’t have gone out with Rooney though surely? He said no - it was just a metaphor...
Chris - You went out with a metaphor?
(silence)

Well I found it funny anyway. Jules produced (again what I thought) was a good sport line too - saying the United fans were going “loony for Rooney”. Apparently the chant last night went as follows:
”Wayne Rooney’s magic, he wears a magic hat,
And when he saw old slapper, he said I fancy that!"

Dave said the Mancs are very creative with their chants aren’t they. Well yeah, but I know much much better. Chris watched the game in the boozer last night, then had a Dominoes pizza at home during half time, before then going back to the pub for the remainder of the second half. This all preceded btw by his and Sophie’s Dave & Emma type walk - which Vitty said is always a maximum brownie point winner. After the match Chris and Sophie went home, watched NYLON, and then a documentary on BBC One all about narcolepsy - which if you don’t know is when people just constantly fall asleep. Ironically Sophie dropped off during it, which I don’t think is a good thing. That was Chris’s rock n roll night anyway - a walk, a pint, a pizza and a show about sleep.
Chris - Really boring night tonight though, I’m going out to the Ivy with Larry and Bono from U2
Dave - Oh are you?
Chris - Yeah. Bit dull really...

MATHEMATICAL MAYHEM ON THE MOYLES SHOW:
Image
So you’ve already heard me mention it once already - but here is the full rundown on what happened when all hell broke loose on the show this morning. It started off as an innocent enough discussion about foxy chick Gwen Stefani, who’s new solo single “What You Waiting For?” had just been given it’s exclusive first play by Chris on the show. Despite the record, he and Dave were saying how much they like her - as she was dead nice to them at the Brits. Chris said she was a tall woman too... and from here on in it was pure chaos. Dave asked if she was taller than him, as he couldn’t remember. Moyles said yeah, she’s miles taller than his 5ft 8"1/2, or whatever he claims to be. Dave said check the facts (i.e. his passport) - where it clearly states that he is indeed 5ft 8"1/2. This debate has been had many a time before in the afternoon, but Chris said that he’s only 5ft 7" - and is clearly taller than Dave. Vitty inevitably disagreed, and Moyles said Dave has a real problem with the fact he’s a short arse...
Chris - Let’s be honest, you’re only just hitting 5' 7"
Dave - This is just nonsense!
(Chris laughs)

Dave repeatedly denied that he is the shorter one, and Chris told him to get over it. He said he didn’t want Dave bringing his bad moods and negative vibes to the breakfast show. Dave said he wasn’t in a bad mood - he just can’t tolerate such fiction and mis truths. Chris called it “small man syndrome”. Dave said he’d willingly take part in any kind of experiment to measure who the tallest was, such was his confidence he'd win:
Chris - Why have you just come in here with a ruler Joce? I’ve told you, wait till the show finishes my darlin!!...
(Rach and Joce laugh)
Chris - ... that’s tomorrows feature
(Dave laughs)
Dom - Ah this is interesting, Joce has just walked in with a tape measure, and the tape measure never lies... er as the slogan goes
(Chris laughs)

So Dom got the tape measure out then, and (on the air - great radio) he measured Chris and Dave individually from tip to toe. What I found funniest of all was the fact that they both got so competitive - telling each other to stand properly etc, despite both saying they “didn’t really care either way”. I think they got that the wrong way round though, we didn’t care either way - they did. The results of Dom’s experiment were bad news for Dave - who was officially confirmed as a short arse, or at least a shorter arse than Chris. Moyles was measured in at 69.6 inches, with Dave coming in at 69.5. Dave said Dom had got confused though, and stressed the issue was a Maths thing, not a height thing.
Chris - Oh sorry Dave, you want to stop the show so that you can discuss Mathematics?
Dave is Mr Maths after all. He showed his workings out in a Countdown stylee, and said that with 12 inches in a foot and him a total of 69.5 feet - that makes him 5ft 9". Chris was using a calculator compared to Daves manual method and said no, that makes him 5.79 feet. Dave disagreed, and his method had the backing of most of the text messages too. Now I got an A in GCSE Maths a couple of years ago (granted a fluke)... but even this went way over my head. Way too early for it...
Dave - I don’t wanna bore everyone with this height thing, but it’s just simple Mathematics, and I just think that you’re making a misjudgment
Image
Dave had a real light bulb on top of head moment, and sussed out that Chris’s problems were coming from his calculator giving the inches out as a percentage of them in feet - and not the original measurements. Moyles said he was talking rollocks:
Dave - Honestly, this is the fundamental flaw in your Mathematics
Chris - “Fundamental”?
Dave - Yeah
Chris - You’ve never used that on Breakfast before have you?
Dave - I think it quite suits me
(Dom laughs)

With the argument seemingly stuck in a dead end (and dragging on big time), Rach does what she normally does in such situations/debates - and rang her mum. She’s an ex teacher don’t y’know. Rachel’s mum said they were both right in their own way, but they said they couldn’t take that for an answer...
Dom - Look, either way you’re both short? you know what I mean?
(Chris and Rach laugh)

And with that, Chris and Dave both win. But unfortunately that wasn’t the last of it. A 3 page essay came in from Laura Smith (hopefully not the one I know) on e-mail, all about the feet/inches/decimal conversion system. Chris shouted abuse at her and said she really did have way too much time on her hands. He started to read it out and it went on forever, so much so that Dominic interrupted to ask if she was prime minister of the world or something.
Chris - Switch your e mail off and get back in the kitchen my darlin..
He said she’s only allowed to e-mail back when she can hit vocals, mix segways or write song parodies. Fair enough. If you do want some kind of sense at the end of this long ramble from me, then here is the definitive evidence. Dave was just using the imperial measurements while Chris converted them into to decimals - which made him 5.75 feet tall, actually equal to Daves 5ft 9" if you look at Radio 1 ONLINE’s conversion table below. Fascinating ain’t it? *cough*...
Image
72 inches = 6 = 6.0 feet
71 inches = 5ft 11" = 5.916 feet
70 inches = 5ft 10" = 5.833 feet
69 inches = 5ft 9 = 5.75 feet
68 inches = 5ft 8" = 5.666 feet
67 inches = 5ft 7" = 5.583 feet
66 inches = 5ft 6" = 5.5 feet
65 inches = 5ft 5" = 5.416 feet
64 inches = 5ft 4" = 5.333 feet
63 inches = 5ft 3" = 5.25 feet
62 inches = 5ft 2" = 5.166 feet
61 inches = 5ft 1" = 5.083 feet
60 inches = 5ft = 5.0 feet

QUESTIONS FOR GWYNETH:
Image
(Jude and Gwyneth in Leicester Square on Monday night)
Today sees the latest addition to Dom’s Hollywood phonebook, as old Gywnnie Paltrow meets him to talk movies in London. Or more specifically her and Jude Law’s new movie “Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow”:
Chris - Didn’t you see that yesterday?
Dom - Yeah I did, went to see it yesterday afternoon
Chris - What did you think of it?
Dom (immediately) - It’s not my type of film I’ve gotta say!
(all laugh)

Dave said he personally wouldn’t have said that before the interview took place, although I suppose each to their own. Dom said the film was very well made and everything... but granted fatigue did set in and he dropped off at one point for 20 minutes. That makes him the 4th show member to fall asleep in a private movie screening so far this year - along with Dave, Aled and Joce. Now the film stuff’s out of the way though, on with the important questions for Paltrow - who he’s doing at about half 11 today (if you pardon the expression):
- What’s your favourite cheese?
- What’s your favourite motorway/motorway services?
- Who’s taller... Chris or Dave?
- Who’s better in bed... Brad Pitt or Chris Martin?
- What do you make of the pedestrianisation of Swindon Town Centre?
- Will Kidderminster Harriers win another game this season?
- Do you like olives?
- Is Mike Skinner a genius or a very lucky chav?
- Have you seen Chris’s movie?
- How do you think Wayne Rooney’s move to Man U will affect Alan Smith’s career at the club?
- Daddy or Chips?
- Colin or Edith?
- Salt or pepper?
- Richard or Judy?
- TJ Hooker or NightRider?
- Airwolf or Street Hawk?
- BJ or the Bear?

Dave - She might mis understand that question though...
(pause - Dom and Chris realise and laugh)

BEST BLAG AND BUZZ OFF AND WHO HAD WHAT FOR TEA LAST NIGHT:>>>
Image
Now here’s an idea for a new feature. Everyone on the show has a week to try and blag the best free stuff they can - with one of the more middling prizes (i.e. not the best or worst) being given out to one <s>not so</s> lucky listener at the end of it all. Plus remember Chris and Dave are freelance - so can keep whatever they get sent (it’s not an infringement on BBC laws apparently).
Rach - I think you’re abusing your position
Chris - I think so too

This all stemmed from Dave saying that he felt hungry - and Chris moaning about the lack of free food left upstairs. Predictably this was during half time, and after yesterday’s mammoth possible sports reader list, today’s was a huge list of free stuff that the team want to try and blag:
*Cars - Ferraris, Minis, Porsches, BMW’s, Audi Convertibles etc...
*Free LCD/plasma screens
*First class return flights around the world
*A Chris Moyles Show Private Jet
*Richard Bransons Necker Island - y’know just for a weekend or summat
*A BMX
*Loads of chocolate
*A years supply of Carling
*Some sheep (for Aled? - just a joke)
*Some ducks
*A Speedboat for Dave
*A yacht for Rachel
*Oh and jet skis for everyone...
Dave - They’re good cos they’ll go in the garage...
Chris - Yeah
Dave - ... not that I’ve got a garage, but if I did..
Rachel - Well put a garage down on the list

*scribbles* jet skis in garage, garage must be near Comedy Daves house *scribbles*.
Rach - Great, that’s a good list...
Buzz Off this morning was a bit of a poor choice by Chris, although I was clearly in the minority by thinking so. Only Dave (on 0:25) buzzed in, with Dom and Rach both letting it run all the way too - and the text vote being 55% in favour. The track in question was the James Bond Theme Remix released by Moby in November 1997 (it got to number 8) - which Dave quite rightly called incidental music. It’s nothing more. What did make up for the below average track though was the brilliant discussion that followed, and then continued over half way into the next record by Jay-Z and Pharrell, which Chris then stopped and played after the news. It was all about Moby, Moby Dick, Jules Verne, Jules Rimet, George Stevenson, Robert Louis Stevenson and George Jetson. Confused? Good.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD FOR TEA LAST NIGHT (just so you erm.. know)
Chris - Dominoes pizza, garlic bread and chicken dippers
Dave - Steak and chips
Rachel - Soup

AND RANDOM OTHER BITS OF CRAP FROM TODAY’S SHOW:>>>
Image
*More e-mails from American idiots listening online. Chris wanted to make it clear that the feature was only called so cos of the Green Day song, and not cos all Americans are indeed idiots. In fact some are very intelligent - like Bill Gates and Gary Coleman from Diff'rent Strokes.
*Dom more or less calling Dido crap, and Chris more or less calling her a tart.
*A very educational discussion on DIY, curtains and blinds.
*As well as more studio tigs off ground - i.e more violent Dave hitting Joce and Rachel.
*Overall Chris said he hoped everyone had found today’s show both informative, educational and therapeutic - through the art of stupidity.
Dom - So enterformationapeutic?
(Dave laughs)

PERSONALISED JINGLE WEEK - DAY 3:>>> SARAH-ANN DOWN
“Sarah-Ann Down, and her boyfriend is called Bryn,
Her favourite word is “wibble”, we’ll try to get that in,
She loves to watch TV, and she’s into F1 racing,
She’s also into cakes but says that’s eating and not baking,
The Chris Moyles Show, National Radio One”

CARPARK CATCHPHRASE:
LARA a driver in the RAF from Banbury 2
TONY a sales rep from Basingstoke 0

Daves Tedious Link
U2 One - U2’s latest record is called Vertigo - Vertigo is what you might get if you’re scared of heights - “Heights” rhymes with “tights”, which are what robbers sometimes wear on their face to disguise their identity - The word “identity” is an 8 letter word, which would be very impressive if you could get it on countdown - Countdown first started in 1982, the same year that “Come On Eileen” was a number one chart topper for Dexy’s Midnight Runners - Dexy’s Midnight Runners were led by Kevin Rowland - Roland Rat was big mates with Kevin The Gerbil - “Gerbil” rhymes with “herbal”, which is a word associated with shampoo, cigarettes and various types of remedies - “Remedy” was a fantastic record by The Black Crowes - Crows can be a menace to farmers crops, and in that respect share something in common with locusts - Locusts have wings, as do wasps, bees and hornets - Hornets “rhymes” with “cornets” - and a cornet is what you would have with your 99 - Which links us to Beverley Knight feat Redman and Made It Back 99
