The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

A discussion at the skate park today developed into a mild mannered argument.
In your opinion, which modern rock/pop song (basically any recent song) has the best lyrics, or the most imaginative?

We created a top 3, in no particular order of:

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication
Nirvana - Lithium
Faithless - Muhammed Ali

i want to know - do you agree with any of our above three?
can you propose another 3 lyrical masterpieces of recent times?

should be interesting

you stink off ass - the only thing that stinks of sarcasm is your post, either post a sensible reply to a sensible topic, or dont bother posting in it at all

Faithless is good and i think nickelback how u remind me is aswell, along with the manics, also:
Santana- Wishing it was
Coldplay- Trouble
The Fugees- Killing me softly
Moby- Why does my heart feel so bad
its a shame that some are rly pathetic now like so solid crew- 21 seconds, they are singing about how they have 21 seconds to sing/ rap which to me seems pointless

I can't see how the lyrics to Lithium are meant to be amoung the best. Yes indeed as a whole it is a good song but there are other songs out there that lyricaly are better. If we take Nirvana songs then others such as "About a girl" are better.
Then saying that it depends on how you come to the answer of what makes good lyrics. I could name songs that the lyrics mean alot to me but other people may see them as nothing. Is good lyrics in a song meaning that it stirs a emotions deep inside or something just to feel good singing.

I Am the Walrus

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

Mister City Policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I'm crying, I'm crying.
I'm crying, I'm crying.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan
From standing in the English rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.

Expert textpert choking smokers,
Don't you thing the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty,
See how they snied.
I'm crying.

Semolina pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
Elementary penguin singing Hari Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Alan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.
Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob g'goo.

First of all mr stickyspanner dont have a go at the teletubbies they are quality tv/music combination on a par with the monkees and far exceeding the tweenies (although that jake is a star i tell ya).

Secondly he said most imaginative lyrics..... i think they fit that.

System of a down: Toxicity or Chop Suey either one maybe the most original song Coming from the Rock scene

Pharoah Monch: Got You/F*ck You from the Training day soundtrack has a blues hook that is superb and constant all way through the song and the lyrics are brilliant too.

Maybe from the pop world it might be Blazin' Squad with their lyrical master piece Crossroads "Whos that/get off the train/Avirex jacket with a bar and a chain/why take that mans chain/no more trouble mate"

....Genius

Chris biggest mistake
Championing Baz Luhrrman "Everybodys Free To Wear Sunscreem"
Now theres another parody that Simon Mayo played at the time by Jon Lovitz (comedic actor been in Loaded Weapon, High School High etc)
