I THINK THE STREETS SHOULD WIN THE MERCUREY PRIZE


2 months ago..........
right i thought the same as few of you..hes crap....really s*it garage music....

then someone i know said i should get his album..well that day i won a £10 voucher from work..so i bought the streets as album as it cost nothing.............

3 weeks ago this weekend
stood in Temple newsham at the Leeds festival in the Dance me and 3 friends waited to see the Streets..1 friend was sceptical and thought he would be rubbish...another thought he would be ok..another thought he would be sh*te.......

(due to thinking Mr Rose would be on soon) we agreed to watch the first 10-15 minutes of the Streets set.....OH MY GOD! it was absouloutly blinding!!!!!!! the lights and the power of the violins and beats were amazing..and his voice suprisingly great......

as we left all three of us said he was really really good and very catchy.......

the sceptical person of our group....has now got his album

I agree with you. I have The Streets' album and I think it's really good, it's between them and Doves as to who gets the Mercury prize. Would like to see them live.

I don't mind the streets. Personally, it's not my cup of tea, but I can see how it appeals to many people and I can also see how their music is representative of many people's youth culture, although not mine, in today's society.

I wouldn't buy their album or anything, but I can see how they are talented artists and how many people really enjoy their stuff and see it as reflecting their lives in many different ways.

To me coming from London, the Streets represent the youth culture in London rather than the SoSolidCrew and i enjoyed the album as well.

yea..i cant say i like any britich rappers apart from ms dynamite. mayb the new uk garage will take a bit of gettin used to. its not up to the standard of the americans and those who try to makle themselves american really dont help matters.

I know, Westwood is a prat, i think hes like 40 and into all this Hiphop i remember when he was shot and after he said" Yeah man i took a cap in the kneecap man" talking as if he was caught up in all this ghetto stuff but he is a middle class boy i think. Also i don't know how he takes himself seriously when he says stuf like "Big up the Gangstas in Devon"

ha ha ha westwood is such an arse!! i saw the same interview i think on the jo whiley show on channel 4, he was all like it aint no big deal man" acting all super tough!! big up the west staines massive (you have to nick a mars bar from the shop to get in!!)


as for uk rappers with yank accents take rebel mc on the record rebel mc feat. double trouble `street tuff` the line in particular " is he a yanky naaaa i'm a londoner" but the instantly sound like he is a yank!!! wierd

unless you go to the undergroung scene your not gonna find anything that hasnt been commercialised these days.

it grows on you..when i first listened to the album i thought it was a bit crap..but it grows on you and i can relate to the song...ive sat in the cafe..the morning after!

oh my god i was brought up in the Farsley area of Leeds! up until i was 9...then i moved to Bramley area....however i do worship Rock music...i hate garage music
