I wouldn't mind the channels half as much if the answers weren't so random, or if they explained their answers. I used to channel hop through the murkier numbers Sky has to offer, and for about a week, one of these "Quiz" channels had:
What's the word?
D--E
Cue thousands of people phoning in with Dine, Dire, Dupe, Dude etc etc etc and the same answers over and over and over and over again for day after day after day and at no point do they actually have to give the prize to anyone. There's no envelope with the answer in it -- they can just keep saying "No, try again!" for as long as the presenter can maintain her fake smile. So at 2:41pm on a Wednesday afternoon, after they've made a gazillion pounds, they can either give it to some random muppet who gives an answer that's already been given a thousand times before or ... and this is the really clever bit ... they can say, no one got it so we'll move on to a new question and they don't have to give an answer. Genius.
So in answer to the question, yes -- Quiz channels should be banned and shut down and their directors and backers jailed on the basis that they're thieves and liars. Furthermore, the shills of these corrupt channels, the pretty faces who whore themselves every day and associate themselves with the con, should be lined up against a wall and shot. Or not allowed to work on TV ever again. Whichever.
