I'm with Topher, I love London but like to live just outside of it-close enough but not too close! I work in a dodgy bit of West London so it's nice to come home and be away from the madness and mayhem. For a night out it's great though

Me neither - I keep hearing about how people are friendlier the further north you get, its not my experience at all. I find people far chattier and friendlier around here, and also did when I lived in London. Every time I have to venture to various points North, I am struck by how miserable and unfriendly the people seem. Still, I'd be miserable if I had to live in some of those places.

I'm not anti-north, especially not anti-northerner (Mr Yudster is from Manchester, and much of his family is still in that area), its just my experience. I see more litter, more vandalism, more graffiti, the people seem less happy and friendly, the countryside is beautiful but its hard to get away from roads, towns and villages - having said all this my experience is largely the north west. I am told the north east is wonderful, and I would very much like to find out first hand. And I have never been to Scotland, which again I must sort out.

Didn't think you sounded anti northern Yudster, just thought people may of seen it that way! Did Newcastle and Edinburgh in the same trip a couple of years ago and it was fantastic, my girlfriend at the time had family in both places. Edinburgh in some respects is similar to many other major cities, but I'd love to visit some of the more remote, and desolate areas

I'm a Londoner originally, so maybe I'm biased but I can't say I've ever found this. You obviously haven't met the right Londoners.

She's going in August! And she's going to live in a plce called Winlaton, which is in Blaydon! Like the Races! I think thats cool. I have actually been to Newcastle, I went to spend a week with a friend who was at the university there, but it was a long time ago and I was probably drunk. I do remember a very good curry though.

i found the north to be nicer than london, but i'm weird.

i think i'd have have to say i'd like to live in a city, but not a big city. it's why i live in berkeley and not san francisco. why i visit chicago and not new york. why i plan to emmigrate to sheffield as soon as mr kendra k offs it.

Oh Kendra, Sheffield is the most horrible place - its grey, dirty, scruffy, depressed and depressing - I have to go there a lot and I hate it. A friend of mine said his father remembers being in Sheffield in the war, and how they used to shelter in the cellar when it was being bombed - apparently he was back there earlier this year and says it looks like its still being bombed, and I know just what he means. The only good thing about it is my ex sister in-law and my nephew live there, not far from Hillsborough. The worst thing is that my mother and father in-law live there too........

I go to Ponds Forge generally once a year, that's quite an impressive place. Not ventured further than that though, and it's just off the M1.

Well, Easter this year for a full week, for "pleasure". Since then once in May for work, and twice in June, but those were just days in the office. Which is in the city centre. I have declined to go this month, but I won't get away with that again.
