it was a hippy wedding on an island off the coast of washington. clothing optional. some people dressed in renaissance faire stuff. some people just wore tshirts. it was raining and rocky, hence the hiking boots. i was wearing wellies.

I also saw four American tourists in Eginburgh wearing kilts....... in a serious manner. Reminded me of Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's European Vacation when they go to Paris and the whole family wears berets. Very amusing.

I now understand the whole west coast vs east coast thing. The west is scenic, with dramatic walks, amazing views, lots of migies, and balls all else to do. The east coast is full of people who want to live on the west coast.

The "West of Scotland" takes up a fairly large area! If you are in a tent in a campsite, does it make any difference which part of the country you are in?

You are indeed right Mr Foots. We just seemed to spend a few days in the Dumfies, Ayr Stranraer triangle..... and post walking we couldn't find alot to do. I guess I'm just too used to living in a big city.

I still prefer the west coast though, if you could just get rid of the midges for me.... the drive from Glasgee to Fort William was spectacular...... and very twisty-turny.

There is: the seaside.

You would have had a choice of approx. 23 ISLANDS to SAIL to.

This is where the famous poet Robert Burns comes from (check out Alloway, South Ayrshire). You could have visited the town where he was born and brought up, as well as being able to literally "stand" in some of the poems he wrote. By this, I mean, you can view the actual areas that some of his poems talk about.

I appreciate the sea side Viv, but it was frikkin freezing when I were there, oh, and we had no boat.

I did visit Burn's home town too, which was quite quaint, I even went into the room where he died..... unfortunately another "elder" visitor to the attraction did a trump that stank so bad I had to leave the room.......the experience was rather spoilt by that.

Alas Viv, I am not really a fan of poetry, I've never liked it, and never really will, so that whole aspect of Ayrshire was wasted on me I'm afraid.

(On the subject of Burns, I still don't really get why he is so revered in Scotland, I suppose he is to you what Shakespeare is to us, but we don't have a Shakespere night, it's all frightfully odd)

Personally, I love poems... we had them drummed into our heads as kids coming from this area, and it worked as well!! O, my love is like a red, red rose.... love it!
