Actually, I remember when I got mine last year it seemed to want to sync automatically to my itunes, even though I didn't want it to, so Zoot's point is right. You can turn off that option within itunes with your ipod connected - thus the ipod knows not to sync to any itunes no matter who's itunes it is, so they'd probably turn off the sync option on the ipod so it wouldn't dissapear as soon as you connected it. If that makes sense

They'll probably just tell you not to sync it. Do many people actually do that, because I don't with my ipod and I don't know anyone who does, but maybe we are just in the minority
Mine seems to Sync automatically. Not sure if that's because theres a setting or because it's just a shuffle though.
