They'll probably just tell you not to sync it. Do many people actually do that, because I don't with my ipod and I don't know anyone who does, but maybe we are just in the minority

Mine seems to Sync automatically. Not sure if that's because theres a setting or because it's just a shuffle though.

Actually, I remember when I got mine last year it seemed to want to sync automatically to my itunes, even though I didn't want it to, so Zoot's point is right. You can turn off that option within itunes with your ipod connected - thus the ipod knows not to sync to any itunes no matter who's itunes it is, so they'd probably turn off the sync option on the ipod so it wouldn't dissapear as soon as you connected it. If that makes sense

Sheesh. I'd never have an ipod again. Needlessly complicated (as this thread proves) and fall to bits way too easily. Creative for me every time now.

It's just another brand of mp3 player. After my ipod died I got a Creative Zen instead and i much prefer it.

I'm with you Nicola I love my Creative Zen. it seems much easier than an Ipod and it's smaller!

i had the first generation of ipod photo. the thing was trouble from day 1, but i think that has more to do with it being a hard drive as opposed to flash memory.

I think the opposite. I had a Creative Zen but got fed up after it broke and I hade to get a replacement for the 3rd time. I just bought an ipod instead, battery life is pretty atrocious but the user interface is much easier than most other mp3 players.
