Viv 113 wrote:1. I am allowed to be emotional in society : I could sit in a mountain of tears and people would just put it down to me being female.

I think it's acceptable for a bloke to cry too. Men can be emotional without being accused of being gay sometimes y'know.

I don't like women who have to wear make-up in order to look attractive. I like people who feel confident enough and who are not vain enough to wear make-up.

Viv 113 wrote:3. I like having my quite long, just beyond shoulder length hair.

Men can have long hair too. I wouldn't grow mine, but I imagine those who choose to, do so because they wish to.

Viv 113 wrote:1. Females are considered "second class" in society, which is ridiculous, because I am a person too.

I don't think they are; we are not living in the 1950s, Viv.

Viv 113 wrote:2. Females are judged so much on how they look : you can't seem to have an "off day" as a female, whereas it seems ok for guys to go out looking like s***.

Why can't you have an off-day?

Viv 113 wrote:3. I don't like p.m.t.

It's difficult for men to be around women with PMT too.

Viv 113 wrote:4. I don't like the fact that you seem to have to smile a lot if you are female: being the difficult little individual that I am, I don't buy into this rule, and if I want to be cross, I am cross.

Who says you have to smile because you're a woman? That's a ridiculous statement.

Ok this is going to be hard for me but I'm going to defend Viv!

I think that many of the points she made that you disagree with Topher are because you are not an average bloke!

In many ways women are considered 'second class' - the wages are still not equal in many businesses for instance. I still have people suprised that I work full time as I have young kids and have had stand up rows with some who say my kids will be emotionally stunted because of it.

Women are expected to be smiley and happy - if I'm not smiling people assume I'm in a mood or have PMT when I could merely be having a quiet day (doesn't happen very often but it does happen)

We don't 'have to' wear make up to look attractive, we just like to wear it, it's a confidence thing as well and if more men complimented us when we weren't made up then we probably wouldn't wear any. There's nothing wrong in enhancing what we have though and if it makes someone feel good about themselves then surely that's a good thing?

Viv is quite right in us not being allowed to have off days! This is true in the workplace as well as at home or just out and about. I blame the press for this - people, in general, expect women to look good at all times. To be honest it's mainly other women who make us feel the need to do this!

So Topher be proud that you are not an average man! (Oh and next time you think "my god she looks a mess" or "look at the state on her" remember the girl in question could just be having an off day!)

I have a hole arrangement with a little lumpy bit at the front between my legs, but I'm pretty sure I'm not a woman...

I am still glad I am female, despite lots of stuff, and I couldn't really live without men (despite a lot of stuff).

This thread is full of them!

Yes it is, but none of Viv's here fall into that category - especially as she has made it clear that they are her personal feelings on the subject, applied only t herself.

By the way, "Viv 113", who are you, and what have you done with Viv?!

this isn't as easy as a woman vs. man thing. i hate being emotional in public, does that make me a man? last time i checked i don't have a penis.

so you like to make yourself look good, but don't like society's pressure to make you do so? i know i'm not the best person to talk about this because i actively make myself ugly (walking around pasty and bald, as long as my clothes are clean i don't care), but i think a lot of women are quicker to judge other women about this stuff. at least more so than men.

i agree that it's a confidence thing, but i wonder how much of it's peer pressure. of course i live and work at a place where 1/3 of the women are au natural.

i wish some of the ladies who burned their bras would put them on again since things started to go very far south. i understand the symbolism of burning a bra, but wearing a bra is comfortable. i know back when i had my real boobs, i had to wear a bra or i'd go crazy. now, i don't have to but it still feels like i am.
