*coughs* can we please go back to talking about my tattoo!!?? :D

anyway...

I'm kinda glad that some people still dislike tattoos or find them a turnoff. It shows that they're not as universally accepted now as has been claimed. The thing about them being a turnoff on women is interesting and I like the fact that a lot of prominent tattoos on a girl is still a relatively unusual sight - it challenges people's notions of what is 'feminine'. That's one of the things I aim to do, also being a very girly girl with long hair, painted nails etc.

I also agree that the most important thing is what a tattoo means to the wearer. I would never expect anyone to like all my tats or even any of them - like anything else, it's a matter of taste. I wouldn't ever get a tat unless i was 100% satisfied that I liked the design and was comfortable with it on my body. Too many people get tats without fully appreciating the permanence of them. It sounds obvious but the growth of laser and other tattoo-removing treatments tells a story.

I don't know - I think its fair to say that I personally on the whole don't like tattoos. But I think I do accept them, completely. I can see how some people use them as an extension of expression, they can be interesting.

Because I find tattoos a turnoff doesn't mean I don't accept them, that's quite an odd thing to say. I also find braided hair a turn off on women, but that doesn't mean I don't accept that as a valid hairstyle choice

tattoos and braided hair... interesting turn offs.

my dad's really upset that i plan on getting another couple of tattoos once i'm recovered from chemo. when he found out about my tattoo, he flipped his lid and tried to cut me off. it was stupid since i had it for over a year and he was getting great grades at uni. he didn't mind my brother's, even though my brother was dropping out of school and always drunk. life isn't fair.

Parents are often irrational. Thats my excuse anyway, and I'm sticking with it.

What's your take on piercings (not in the ears) fish heads? I really like piercings and when I was single, I once knew someone who had over 30. Alas she wasn't single, but I am happy now anyway.

my dad's certainly irrational, bless him. when the whole thing with my tattoo went down, my ex-sister in law totally yelled at my dad for being a hypocrite. it was the first time i liked her.

Depends on whereabouts they are. I quite like ones in the belly button, even if they are essentially useless. Nose piercings are ok, but not brilliant. As long as someone is not overly pierced - like just one or two - I'm fine with it. Any more than that it can be distracting

I don't have any tattoos... I don't like them at all. If I did have one, I'd have one showing an Angel.

Perhaps accept was the wrong word. What I was trying to get at is that it's often now assumed that everyone likes and would consider getting a tattoo. I've read lots of magazine articles trying to imply that they are 'over', 'old hat' etc, as if they were a fashion accessory. 20yrs ago (perhaps even less) they would never have been viewed as being so mainstream.

My parents have come to accept that I'm tattooed, and the only reason my dad dislikes them is that he knows they're expensive (my dad is notoriously tight with money). My brother has none, and no piercings either. I have six piercings and don't plan on any more, just cos I don't think any others would look good on me. But I see them differently as they are much more temporary. They sometimes leave a scar depending on your skin, but often a person can take them out and they leave no trace.

And Viv, I have an angel tattoo. I got that one in memory of the baby I miscarried.

Of course Gaspode. That's why I get tattoos - the world wouldn't cope with my stunning beauty otherwise. :D

Not really. One person's attractive is not always another person's. I love tattoos on both males and females.

I wasn't talking specifically about tattoos although most of them I do find unattractive. I just don't see the need for all this at all.

There is no need. We all do things that we think make us more attractive, whether there is a 'need' for them or not.

There must be some sort of need or why do anything? Maybe its a need to mark an occasion or a need to make yourself feel more attractive. I don't care what anyone does as long as its harming no one but personally I don't see the need.
