During a discussion just now I came up with another reason I'm quite pleased to be a man. When I get married, being a man, no one has to give me away; were I a woman, the person who gave me away would not be my dad, as is traditional in these things. This would upset my dad, however, I would want who I wanted to do it because it would be my day. Therefore, in order to not cause upset, it is better that I am a bloke.

Good point Toph.

My uncle died relatively young and his daughter, my cousin, who is the same age as me, told one of our other uncles that when she married she'd ask him to give her away in the absence of her dad. When it came to it she got married fairly quickly and in a low-key ceremony and my uncle didn't give her away, in fact he wasn't even there (none of us were). He was narked and as a result there was a moderate feud that went on for some time. Stoopid.

I s'pose if I were to get married I'd want my dad to give me away. Altho it's just as well I have no immediate plans, he had a knee replacement last autumn and is in surgery again on friday, he wouldn't even make it up the aisle at the moment.

i know my dad will shit a brick if i don't let him give me away. i'd prefer to get married away from everybody though, so we'll see.... marriage is still some time off, but you all are invited.

I'm quite analytical about some things - I hate the way guys like to plan things, why can't they just go with the flow now and again?

No, I like a good plan. I like to plan things with military precision. If you believe in astrology, which I'm not sure I do, it's a Capricornian trait. Many men I know infuriate me cos they won't commit to being certain places at certain times and stuff like that.

Nicola please tell me where you find these men! My hubbie likes to plan everything, only 2 problems with planning
1. he has no idea what to do if things don;t go to plan
2. he spends so much time planning we never do anything!

Haha
reminds me of Rimmer in an early episode of Red Dwarf where he spends so much time putting together a revision timetable for an officer's exam, he doesn't get time to revise.

I like the planning of stuff and the logical systems .... I plan things... you'd probably never suspect that.. it's just they have a habit of going a bit "sideways".

you will, I can assure you, over time, learn to think forward into the future!! It's more than a little unfair of your mom to expect you to be able to pre-plan in the way she can.

I know I'm pre-empting Ballbag, but using 'mom' instead of 'mum' is more than a little annoying.
