Given when it all happened, and the way such things were dealt with (or not) in those days, I think asking for legal proof is a bit unrealistic. Family and friends of Dodgson have, quite understandably, never been explicit about what they know as far as I am aware, but neither have there ever been any strenuous denials from them. I'm not sure about this one myself. I suppose in fact I do believe that Dodgson's personal interest in "Alice" was inappropriate, but I don't think anyone has ever suggested that he acted on it inappropriately or accused him of anything indecent, whatever his feelings were. I think I have always "known" this, and it hasn't coloured my views on his books. I read them as a child, and I would now happily read them to other children. I'm just wondering now if that is as it should be. I hope it is.
