When I was young, Arcade machines were great. they cost 10p and for that you got to move a small dot around a screen and hit big buttons and make things blow up on screen. Skill wasn't what was important just that you could hit the buttons really quickly.

My point is they used to be everywhere. Pubs had them, the local corner shop had them, cinemas had them. Nowadays they just seem to be in Amusement arcades. Ok they've got bett graphics but they cost twice as much and are not as addictive.

So then where was the last place you saw an Arcade machine not in an amusment arcades and what was your favourite game?

Last place I a proper one (not a pub quiz machine) was in a club I used to go to In Portsmouth. It had Altered Beasts on it and I held the high score for ages...I also used to be able to complete the new Star wars arcade game with 1 credit, took half an hour but the crowd of 12 years old gazing reverently at me like some sort of god made it worth it.

Oh and my favourite Game of all time has to be Space Harrier...or even earlier Stargate....

Ahh teh good old days

Try 10 times as much at least...

They have arcade machines at our bowling centre, but you're right, pubs don't have them anymore.

I used to like Sega Rally Championships (where you had a little sonic hanging from your rear view mirror) or Daytona.

Then there was Time Crises, or if you really wanna go back in time, Operation Wolf.
Anyone remember the Simpsons game you could play, where 4 players could each play one of the family and they all had an item - Bart had a skateboard, Marge had a Hoover, Homer had a bowling ball and lisa had a skipping rope, and you could team up and do special moves with another player? anyone know if you can download it for an emulator? I'd love to play it again

Yeah I can't believe games where all you had to do was tap them have died out or been replaced by games requiring some skill. Not only that but the cost of them has risen in line with inflation! goddammit!!! I don't like these new small ipod thingys either, I want to carry a beatbox round on my shoulder. And noway am I using a mobile phone, I'll stick with the two cans and a piece of string method thank you sir.

Actually, I don't want to be this evolved human being either. I'm off back to the sea guys. byeeeeeeeeeee

Blimey, I don't think I'd want to live in the sea, they seem to have incredible inflation there.

I quite like the idea of going back to the old 2 cans and a piece of string method.

It was alot cheaper back then

Better than communicating across a cycle path! (psychopath / cycle path - see what I did there? Genius. Sheer genius.)
