The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

This was deleted previously, not sure why, it doesn't break the CoC, and it is perhaps one of the few interesting and relevant issues on this forum. If you want to delete it again could someone PM me the reason so i don't keep bringing it up. If you are deleting it you have to ask yourself why.

On Monday afternoon UK time, a 13 year old boy was shot by the American Sniper when his Aunt dropped him off at school. Previous to that, the Sniper had killed 6 innocent people performing everyday tasks such as washing their car, getting petrol, mowing their lawn.

On the Monday night Chris Moyles Live show, there was a sketch/section where a cross hair was put in front of a camera to act as a sniper scope and a women was shot, using dye packs to simulate her being wounded. Now personally I wasn't offended, however my question was did anyone else think that this was stunningly ill timed baring in mind the days news events. Especially for a show that sells itself on looking at the news events of the day.

This was quite a big story aswell, it was all aover BBC news 24, Sky News and the ITN news channel all afternoon, and was part of the evening news, including channel 5 news.

Regards

It was obviously deleted for a reason, people could have been offended by it, so bringing it up again could offend people more. I didn't see the show, but what you're describing does sound fairly shocking given recent events.

Hi,

I contacted the forums moderators regarding its deletion. The person that replied, Chris, said to post it again and he would judge it.

Not trying to cause trouble, just think its a fairly interesting issue thats worth us talking about.

To be fair, Chris has been a bit of a git recently. He's been editing my posts left right and centre.

It is a touchy subject, but don't people have the right to free speech? You can't break the law by speaking your mind (as long as it's not racist or similarly predudice).

Hypocrite! That's what speaking your mind is! Duh! Anyway, if you wanna be really offensive just use the private messages!

You are deliberately missing the point, Lynch.
The point is a valid one. It is not actually about the murders in the USA directly, it is about whether the timing was right involving the sketch on the show and whether it was insensitive.
I don't think that's a touchy subject. Although Uglybob would turn it into one by saying something like; 'Who cares if people are being shot, they're thousands of miles away'.

I personally wasnt offended at all and I think that the team on the tv show would have put a lot of thought into whether to put it in the show or not and thought it wouldnt offend too many people. Im more offended by the turkey they now have on the show until the end of the series to be honest.

I think the turkey thing is pretty sick.

It doesn't sound like it was a very tasteful sketch to me.

And I don't think calling Chris a git will help your posts in any way shape or form.

True, but it has been annoying me slightly.

Damn, this was on Monday night's show? Maybe that's why there was no late repeat. At any rate I didn't get to see it, so I can't exactly care about its insensitivity. - jc

I fail to see how anyone can be offended by this thread. Little rocket mentions a current news item which, as is pointed out, has had mass coverage. Shock, horror, what WILL we do? Things like this are a fact of life - wraping people (or ourselves) in cotton wool and pretending they don't happen is pointless - it would be nice if life was all smiles, little fluffy bunnies and free, consensual sex whenever you wanted it but it's not.

I think the * running around Washington with a sniper rifle is the one being offensive.

the thing is practically anything can be offensive in some way to some one. if you changed shows everytime something bad happened somewhere in the world nothing would ever get done....

I agree with M+L fan (!!??). The question lies in the fact of weather the timing was right to pull of such a sketch. I didn't see that particular show, but given the few I have seen I would guess its a desperate attempt at 'cutting edge' comedy to get viewers. It sound pointless, unfunny and a trifle sick. Moyles should be ashamed of himself.

I agree with Stevo, the producers should have cancelled the sketch. It's pretty sick to do 'comedy' sketches about people getting shot anyway, but given the events that are going on in America, the decision to show this was very questionable. It wouldn't suprise me if a few complaints would be going Evans' way.

Having said that, I didn't see the show, so I'm relying on the information I have read throughout this thread.

I think not seeing the show you've got it completly out of proportion. It didn't even occur to me until it was posted up here, and there was certainly no reference at all to the shootings in America. Giving the way Chris is so serious about this sort of stuff (I was amazed about how sensitive he's always been about September 11th and how well he dealt with it) I can't see it even occuring to him either. The gag was that they'd cought one of the staff dropping a teabag on the floor and then putting it back into Chris's tea. As a punishment they sent her outside and then shot her in both arms. I'm sure it wasn't meant to have any reference to the killings in America and I doubt they even made the connection, because I certainly didn't.
