"These are the simple rules. No barking, now growling, you will not lift your leg to anything in this house. This is not your room. No slobbering, no chewing, you will wear a flea collar. This is not your room. No begging for food, no sniffing of crotches, and you will not drink from my toilet. This is not your room."

To have and have not, Bogart and Bacall, tis a classic line from a classic film.

Talking of old B&W films, can anyone get this classic?....

Quite possibly my favourite movie of all time. 1946 this time. Walter will know it.

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And poof. Just like that, he's gone."

"Old McDonald had a farm ee i ee i o. And on that farm he shot some guys. Badda boom badda bing bang boom."

"You know what happens if you do another turn in the joint?"
"* your father in the shower and then have a snack? Are you going to charge me dickhead?"

"I must admit I didn't think much of Andy first time I laid eyes on him; looked like a stiff breeze would blow him over. That was my first impression of the man."

"And that also is very convenient, isn't it, Mr. Dufresne?"
"Since I am innocent of this crime, sir, I find it decidedly *inconvenient* that the gun was never found."

"The funny thing is - on the outside, I was an honest man, straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook."

"Are you quitting on me? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy * walrus-looking piece of shit! Get the * off of my obstacle! Get the * down off of my obstacle! NOW! MOVE IT! I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world! I will motivate you, Private Pyle, IF IT SHORT-DICKS EVERY CANNIBAL ON THE CONGO!"

"If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human, * beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit. Because I am hard you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps. Do you maggots understand that?"

"How tall are you, private?"
"Sir, five-foot-nine, sir."
"Five-foot-nine, I didn't know they stacked shit that high."

"Who said that? Who the * said that? Who's the slimy little communist shit, twinkle-toed * down here who just signed his own death warrant? Nobody, huh? The fairy * godmother said it. *. I will PT you all until you * die. I'll PT you until your assholes are sucking buttermilk."

"Well, no shit. What do we have here, a * comedian! Private, Joker! I admire your honesty. Hell, I like you, you can come over to my house and * my sister!"

"Were you born a fat, slimy, scumbag puke pieca' shit Private Pyle, or did you have to work on it?"

"Bullshit. It looks to me like the best part of you ran down the crack of your mama's ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress."

"Holy dog shit. Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Cowboy. And you don't look much like a steer to me so that kinda narrows it down. Do you suck dicks?"

"Do you feel dizzy? Do you feel faint! Jesus H. Christ! I think you've got a hard-on!"

"Come on Pyle! Pull! Pull! You mean to tell me you can't do one single pull up Pyle? You are a worthless piece of shit Pyle! Get outta my face! Get up there Snowball!"

From three different films.

The Usual Suspects (Fantastic Film).

The Shawshank Redeption (Another Fantastic Film).

I can only guess the others are from some Army film, the five-foot-nine quote sounds like something out of Full Metal Jacket though (although this could be way, way off). Whatever film it is, it's probably not my sort of thing so I only saw it once.

Surely not?

Might be. What of it? Surely you don't expect me to remember all of them word for word?

It is Full Metal Jacket, which I loved.

I'm glad it is, the only other two army related films I could think of were Saving Private Ryan and GI Jane.

GI Jane was great! I always wanted a hairdo like Demi Moore's.

What Demi Moore's hair in GI Jane? Really? Well, she looked ok, and Sinead O'Connor pulled it off, why not?

Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Hamburger Hill, The Thin Red Line. All men should be made to watch these films.

"I love the smell of Naplam in the morning"
And Platoon has John McGinley from Scrubs in it as well.

I'll always remember the idiot reading out the result of the Best Film award at the Oscars that year giving the award to "Apocalypso Now". It was a film with great visual impact.

A lot of them are on You tube, but I'll probably buy the DVD's as well.

I've got them on Video still where i got them so long ago. The only problem is now that i haven't got a video player so kind of need to upgrade to a dvd copy.

Don't get the directors cut or whatever it was called, Redux I think, pointless extra 45 mins. I like the film becuase it demonstrates the clear futility of war and lack of direction that many of the marines faced.
