1( As there are a lot of people talking on each topic, it is often difficult to ascertain what post people are replying to. Thus, by quoting you have a quick and user-friendly way to work out what post you are replying to.
2( With a plethora of posts on a lot of topics; replying without a quote may lead to sifting through different pages to find what point someone is actually replying to.
3( There is no 3rd reason. I just wanted to use the word 'threefold' on a messageboard, as I don't think I have used it before.
