Out of interest, what was your opinion before and what is it now? What do you mean by "black and white"?

I didn't see it.

How the "muslim / suicide bomber" debate could ever be seen as black and white is beyond me.

Hence my question about what she means by "black and white".

I just mean i thought Suicide Bomber = Evil that sort of thing,

But these People that blow themselfs up usually have there reason, now i am not saying I agree with there reason but they are doing it because that is the only way that they can get heard...well thats is what I think.

But from there Point of View, American and Britain are fighting an illegal war on "terror" or "Oil" i forget, and they Americans and British are Killing "innocent" Muslims so they are going to kill "innocent" British/American people.

And while this is proberly not going to be a popular opinon,

Making the dicision to Blow yourself up in the name of anything is one hell of a dicision and i Dont think they are Cowards or evil, its hard to explain.

I think the British and Americans and Suicide Bombers are all as bad as each other in a way,

Its hard to put into words how i feel about the whole matter.

I suppose I wouldnt be so quick to judge now there are reasons for everything.

Well, one should presume that they believe what they're doing is right (either through brainwashing, indoctrination or just personally gained beliefs) or at least that the ends justify the means. I don't think there's anyone on the planet that could be appropriately described as 'evil'.

It depends on your definition of "evil" though. Some people seem to term an "evil person" as someone who is born bad and is inherently "evil", under that definition, I'd agree with Console that no one could be described as "evil". If, however, like me, you would define "evil" as "extremely morally wrong", then lots of people can be described as "evil". Obviously, under that definition, it's still not a black and white subject as morals will always be a grey area. If, like Ms Scamp88 seems to, you think that "evil" is performing an act without being able to justify it in your own head, again, you would be hard pushed to find someone who is "evil". I think everyone who performs an act, be it illegal or not, will attempt to justify it to themselves, in order to make peace with their own conscience; I think that they will usually be able to do this, otherwise the guilt would be unbearable.

In this case, as has been mentioned, the suicide bombers have been brainwashed, usually, to perform the act of suicide in order to cause pain and suffering to others. It is their belief that those "others" deserve the pain and suffering that they are going to have forced upon them.

Not only is there a grey area in the morals (as there are many different moral standards) but there's also justifications for committing an immoral act that stop it from being evil. Without giving an overused example involving having to kill a child, killing (which is almost certainly considered extremely wrong/evil) to protect is generally considered a good thing, especially when the numbers fall in favour of the protected people. Under the 'moral evil' definition, evil becomes a personal opinion and therefore just a word without any real meaning.

Not sitting next to a Muslim for the reason that they are a Muslim and "therefore" could be a suicide bomber is a disgusting act of prejudice.

Also, I'm sure this won't be a popular thing for me to say, but just say there were a suicide bomber on the bus you were on. It won't make much difference whether you're sitting next to them or not, you're still going to be affected.

To be honest, it's over two years since I last got on a bus, probably more for a lot of people on here, but when I did catch buses, I didn't like sharing anyway. If I absolutely had to share, I didn't really care who with, but I would try to gauge who would be the more likely to get off sooner rather than later.

One of the Muslim mum's at the nursery where Baby Yudster goes told me the other day that of all the other parents she sees there only two of us have ever spoken to her. They're missing out, she's a laugh.

I don't do busses, but I would hate to think that I would be influenced in that way if I did.

I find that sad. I'm generally not the talkative type anyway, not to people I don't know, but that other parents would talk amongst themselves and not include her is indicative of the attitude in the country.

Unfortunately, much as we like to sit on our high horse and point fingers at other people, as a nation, we are still very racist in my opinion.

As much as it shames me, I would agree with this.

I blame the papers for a lot of it. The rest of the media doesnt help. Neither does the way the government responds to certain things. Although I dunno how else the government should respond.

it's because people still read the daily mail.

right now there are 30 people in my library (only three of whom are white). we're one big multi-kulti party here.
