Or sometimes you can get that wierd situation, where you can here your voice echoing back at you. I text much more than ring as a lot of the time i have to speak to people who speak very little English. The texts i send though end up being too long, which just gets daft.

I tend to send long texts, thank god for the "extended SMS" feature. OK, you get charged for three or four texts (or three or four texts come off your free text allowance), but it's better than not fitting most of it in, or tlkng lyk dat so ppl dnt undrstnd and then you have to send it again.

Even in an example, writing in text speak makes me feel dirty.

I love my mobile and it's even got a name "Martha" - MM (martha mobile). I prefer to text. I don't really make a lot of calls. I let people ring me. I find I prefer to have it, so that I don't miss out on anything if I am out and about! Sometimes tho', people can call me at the most awkward moments!

I don't really like to have conversations on public transport, so sometimes if family call me when I am on a bus/train, e.g., I will say the word, "bus", or the word "train", and hang up. Thus, people know it's a moment where I do not wish to have a conversation.

I cannot believe people who actually do not have one, because even if you do not wish to be disturbed whilst out and about, you could surely just switch it off. Quite simple really.

Eh? Are you suggesting that people who don't want a mobile phone should buy one anyway, because they can always switch it off?!

I meant: switch it on when they wish to be contacted (or in case of an emergency).

Switch it off when you don't feel like talking.

I believe firmly everyone should have a mobile 'phone.

Even if they don't want one, TOUGH.

I think new laws should be brought in, in case of an emergency, where people may owe their lives to a mobile.

NOPE, I mean it!! In case of emergency, I firmly believe all people should be equipped with mobile telephones! :-)

This actually makes a small amount of sense to me.

Although the chances are that at the scene of mosts accidents, someone would have a phone.

I don't know why I should be surprised at this, but I can't believe someone would give their mobile phone a name.

Haha, that has really made me laugh. I am not imagining you sitting on a bus full of people, your phone going off and you answering rather abruptly with "bus" and hanging up. It's an amusing thought. I think I would laugh if I were a passenger on the bus at the time.

What's the point in having one if you're going to turn it off? Some people (like my mum) don't like to be contacted at all when they're out, and when they're at home they have a landline instead. Surely that's fair enough?

You would make it illegal not to own a mobile, but perfectly legal to have it switched off at any time? I think that may be an addition to the "ludicrous laws", were it introduced. Fortunately it's probably unlikely to be.

1 Coverage
2 Battery Life
3 Theft potential
4 It effects your brain
5 There are some people who can't use then (the same people who get there Dad's to fill their car with Petrol)
6 They can GPS position you
7 What is so urgent nowadays that requires everyone to be instantly contactable
8 If you trust someone and communicate in advance you don't need a phone
9 We all have freedom of choice
10 Their are boxes on street corners that smell of wee and are covered in pictures of ladies offering to please you, where I believe in exchange for change you can call people.

Surely having the mobile that you didn't want in the first place and then keeping it switched off at all times is redundant?

My in-laws only switch their mobile on when they are expecting a call! I'm always confused by this. Mind you I'm regularly confused by many things!
