Seems Glasgow has gone and beaten Abuja in Nigeria to become the host of the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

I'm surprised they didn't win to be quite honest. Nothing against Scotland (for once), but I'm surprised their officials didn't bribe enough people to win.

Im a bit surprised as well. If you look at it with the UK banner which we are all, of course, under - I thought that London getting the Olympics would have hindered our chances. However...

with Glasgow winning by 47 votes to 24.

...seems to suggest we had a fairly strong lead.

My Zimbabwean colleague has also expressed surprise (for a different reason; he surmised that they would get the "let's give to it Africa to make us look PC" vote). He has also come to the conclusion that the Games will be better for not being in Nigeria.

Well, depends what Im doing in 2014, but yeah - my line of work will definitly benifit.

To be honest, id imagine most people will see a benifit one way or another.
