I'm still none the wiser.

You know, don't worry about it. However, our friendly Wikipedia offers THIS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribbles but it pales in comparison to watching the episode. Suddenly I'm feeling very old...................

Here too. I would like some snow. Loved your picture Cat, really evocative.

I think most people in England, specially southern England, only really like snow because we hardly ever get any and when we do, its mostly pretty insignificant. I don't like it when it's bad enough to cause inconvenience, but around here, it hardly ever is. I imagine you are more used to it than me viv, it has no novelty for you any more!

I've never really watched TOS (I may have seen an episode here and there), so I don't really know much about the Tribbles either, only what was said in one of the DS9 episodes.

I think if it's going to be cold, it may as well go the whole hog and snow as well. I hate the cold in general though.

I do find it ridiculous how a little bit of snow (or any extreme weather for that matter) stops us from doing anything; in Canada they get at least a couple of feet of snow and the temperatures can reach -20°C, yet they carry on as normal.

Other countries do cope much better with snow. When I was in Iceland, it was snowing, and they efficiently cleared it away, and just got on with the day.

I thought the DS9 episode with the tribbles was really funny. I never really liked TOS much, but I do love TNG, DS9 and Voyager. I haven't seen Enterprise.

I don't think it's ridiculous to assume that in places where they regularly get such conditions they would be ready and able to cope with them. Fact is, we DON'T regularly get those conditions, in fact we hardly ever do, so why should we be in a state of constant readiness for something which hardly ever happens?

It's the norm for some other countries though, so it's essential for their survival to have an efficient procedure to remove the snow/ice. This country may have one or two snow days (which halt productivity) a year, and most people like the day off; it's not really worth spending a lot of money setting up snowplows and salt trucks to be ready at a moments notice on the off chance that it not only snows and settles, but that it is also bad enough to bring the country (or at least parts of it) to a halt.

I understand that they get a lot more snow than us and therefore can cope with it more efficiently, but last year it snowed and settled quite well. My dad rang his work and told them he couldn't go in because of the snow. I managed to get in (from the same house) on that same day. I don't think my dad is alone.

That's nothing to do with the weather though, it's to do with an attitude.

The snow is all busy melting today. There was loads of water around my house this morning and it smelt of wee. I don't know if melting snow always has this dodgy aroma, or if there were just a lot of alcholics about last night, or what.
