So let's presume it's a given that McLaren is on his way out. Who would you like to take his place?

Personally, if the FA can affoard him I'd go for Mourinho. The England team needs someone with some big cahoonas who's going to put the "stars" in their place. Added to that he's a tactical genius and he's dead sexy too.

Your thoughts please.

He is absolutly gorgeous, but id like to think he would have more sense. Its the FA and the whole system thats the problem, not the manager. That said, Martin O´Neill, could be useful.

We don't need to presume anything; there'll be an announcement by lunchtime I reckon. I can't remember who said (may not have been on here), but I agree: there's a reason the best club he's managed is Middlesborough.

I think Sam Allardyce would be good, but obviously he's in a job and also he's probably talked his way out of it now. In a few years Stuart Pearce could do it too (but not just yet.) Also Terry Venables, but he's burned too many bridges as well, I reckon he was only in as Assistant Manager because McLaren wanted him.

Please not Mourinho. I would like to see Wenger have a go, but he won't leave Arsenal, and who can blame, him? But he would be my choice (and I can't stand Arsenal....).

Mr Yudster reckons Martin O'Neill or Mark Hughes. I think O'Neill couldn't take the pressure, didn't he leave football completely for a while because of stress and anxiety? If so, the England job would kill him.

I think they could do worse than offer it to Roy Keane. At least he would know how to handle the whiny pansy pampered players, and he would make sure that every man who put on an England shirt would play like they meant it (if they valued their manhood they would anyway). Also, there's a good chance that he would break a few jaws and noses in and around the FA, which could only be a good thing.

He's sexy as anything too.

We need someone who can say "I'm dropping you because you're shit and I don't care if you do play for the biggest club in Europe."

And who should he be saying it to? I know who I think....!

Bring back Sven....at least he qualified for the tournaments! Only joking, i think the best person to replace him would be Jose Mourinho too. Or Sam Allardyce.

They've both ruled themselves out.

Of course that doesn't mean neither of them will take it eventually.

I don't understand why anyone would think that Jose Mourinho is a good choice. He has a proven record at (stinking rich) club level, and is a charismatic kind of guy, but international management is a different beast, and the England job is one of the worst, because the FA are in charge. Do you honestly think that someone with an ego like Mourinho could make as success of a job where that bunch of fools are involved? The England job needs someone capable, knowledgeable, intelligent, quiet, full of personal integrity yet sneaky enough to work with a corrupt group of tossers without becoming tainted by them. I personally think it also should be an ex-player, which again is against Mourinho. I wonder if Steve Coppell would be able to do it, but his managerial record isn't that great. He ticks all the other boxes though.

Harry Redknap could be an interesting one. Though he might be getting on a bit once the South Africa world cup comes around. Scolari could be worth a pound or two, Portugal havn´t actually played too well recently-despite qualifying and i dont think he´s too happy in that job now.

With the FA only having given McClaren 18 months and decided he ain't good enough, I reckon they are going to struggle to even tempt a reasonable manager to take the job.

Don't be silly - from what I can gather, most engerlanders think they could do a decent job...!

I'm not sure that completely describes what happened. If McLaren was being asked to take a team from non-qualifying status (like Scotland, for instance) to justifiably-expectant qualifying status, and was only given 18 months, that would be harsh. But when he's actually taken a team which could justifiably be expected to at least qualify for major competitions and turned them into - well, into Scotland, I think sacking is a mild response - hanging might be more appropriate.

That's the problem, everyone thinks they can do the job!

I think foot-loose should apply.

On a related note, I'm not sure if I've posted this before, but it's hilarious and the reply he got is absolutely brilliant.

The rest of the web site is also quite funny.

Steve McLaren is going to the England Christmas Party dressed as a pumpkin… he’s hoping someone can turn him into a * coach.

I tell you what! I hate football, don't get it at all, however 2 million quid for doing a bad job is something I could handle really well! Anyone fancy job sharing with me?
