If you recorded the entire Chris Moyles show, fairly low quality, how big would the sound file be in a) .wav format and b) .mp3 format.

Is there anyone who records the entire show?

I used to record the show on cassette/MD so I wouldn't know about the size of the whole show as a computer file. I know that people here do record the show straight onto their PC, but I dunno if it's the WHOLE show tey record.

Back in the old days there was a CMdb project that was this kind of thing.

A CD of shows has just turned up on my doorstep actually (thanks Mky) - looks like about 60MB per show at 128kbs 44khz (i.e. good quality) - with all the songs edited out.

How about if it was reasonably low quality, something like 22kHz 24kbps mono, as in faily duff, but still listenable.

Yeah, but you can't get a 3 hour tape.

Anyway, the reason I ask is because I was going to miss the show today, so I wondered if it was feasible for the show to be recorded electronically and sent to me via email, but it doesn't matter anymore because my lab was cancelled.
Then I had the idea of someone setting up a resouce of hosting the past week's shows just in case anyone missed them.

Chris wrote:Yeah, that idea was called CMdb. We had it already.

What happened to it?

You can get 2 and 1 hour DATs.

Have to get a DAT machine first, of course....

Anyone know where I can get a recorder that records directly to MP3, and will fit on a floppy?

you wouldnt be able to get much on a floppy - a 4 minute track at 128kps is about 4mb, a floppy is 1.4mb.

I meant a recorder, like the windows 'sound recorder' but better that will fit on a floppy disk, i didn't mean I was going to record stuff onto floppy disks! That would be pointless.

I've noticed that, it's a bit of a bugger. I might send an email in the direction of Mr. Parffit and get him to sort it out.

I record the show in 22050Hz Stereo 56kBit/s which is approximately 7KB/s. On average, this is about 66.5Mb per show (I record for 2:47 14:58-17:45)

If you want to record on the same quality with WAV its something like 86KB/s, which would be about 862Mb.

Hope this helps

Probably costs more in liscencing fees for putting shows up with music thats in the charts and that rather then music that not many people have heard of.
