Actually intuition is based on sub-concious knowledge, things you notice about people, from the way they talk and move, and from the surrounding area, like temperature, size, humidity, pressure, smell and many other things. It also takes into account prior knowledge, and relates what your senses are telling you to what you've experienced in the past. Intuition can be a valuable tool, as you don't have to consciously think about all the variables (which would take far longer) and it can be quite accurate, but it should never be relied on, because every situation is different, even though there could be many similar variables.
