1. What is the currency in Poland?

2. Where would you find "The Ocean of Storms"?

3. Complete the quotation from Voltaire : "If God did not exist ............"

4. If Alice went down the street for some shopping, gave herself one hour to shop, returned within 10 minutes, yet her mother claimed she had been out for
40, what would have taken place?

I know the ISO code is PLN, but I haven't a clue what it stands for.

Luna.

"...it would be necessary to invent him."

Her mother couldn't tell the time?

This is yet another quiz in which i have no clue as to what the answers are. Though i agree with Markool on the first one :)

number 4 is easy, she went out to buy some fags for her and her mum! Either that or she was travelling close to light speed I could give the exact relative speed but this isn't the geeky thread.

It's the opposite of pythagorus for anyone who wants to work it out though, the difference rather than the sum. It works in four dimensional General Relativistic physics.

See i'm not just a pretty face.

How does travelling close to the speed of light solve number four? When travelling close to the speed of light, time slows down for you (relative to an outside observer), so an hour to her would have been far longer in the real world; this doesn't solve the problem, it only makes it unnecessarily complex and harder to solve.

Good job you have the brains eh? Having seen your face :P

But if she returned within 10mins for her yet her mum says it was 40mins then more time has passed to a stationary observer.

Ezza- I shall pretend I didn't read that, I'm a very handsome man I shall have you know!

Hmm, evidentially we read the question differently. I read it as though she went for an hour shopping and then took ten minutes to return (which presumably means it took her ten minutes to get there too). In which case, she would have been gone for longer than the 40 minutes than her mother claimed she had been gone.

If we take your interpretation, then your proposed solution of near light speed travel still doesn't work. Ignoring the obvious lack of a drive capable of propelling an object to speeds anywhere near C, there's the little problem of accelerating and decelerating, not to mention turning and avoiding obstacles. It would take a long, long time to safely accelerate to even 1% of the speed of light without crushing the then-human-looking lifeforms, and just as long to decelerate; you would have to travel around the planet many, many times for the acceleration and deceleration, and out of the atmosphere too, as the air resistance would certainly stop any ship from reaching such immense speeds. Also, how would you shop at near light speed? Reaching your arm outside of the ship (to pick up items, or to pay) at such speeds would tear it from your body, at best. Sounds like a bit much to just add 30 minutes to your shopping time.

Of course, all of this is rather (and almost literally) academic, as Viv told me that my answer was, infact, correct (however bizarre that may seem).

I think yeh, that there is a big maze on the property so once she had left the property and come back onto the property yeh it took 10 minutes, but when she left the house it took 40 because she had to go through the maze, go shopping then come back through the maze then go find her mum in this like big house and tell her she is back.

I still reckon her mother thought she went out for 40 something, like cigarettes. Its not actually noted that she went for 40 'minutes'...

Console- we did read the question differently.

Also as there was nothing in the question that said it was set on earth and in the present I just "thought outside the box" and decided she was going shopping on another planet, jumped in her spaceship, spent four minutes getting there, picked up the fags which took two minutes and then spent four minutes getting back: total time for her = ten minutes.

And her spaceship has inertial dampeners and a really powerful warp drive or something, you just press a button and say "make it so" and your away. What? You think Kirk never said "oh look services next 4 light years, who fancies a quick stop off?"

I'm not sure if I want to get involved in this but "she went out for 40" is obviously a reference to her buying 40 cigs for her mum which would only take her 10 mins! It does not involve any weird time space continuum crap or space travel! Can we now call a halt to this madness???
