Did Foots tell you only number 3 applied to you? Or did you decide that yourself?

Do all 3 apply to her? Or just 1 and 3?

I don't remember her stating a preoccupation with computers? And, she's definitely not "boring" so there's no great leap here in deductions

He could always do #s 4 to 10. Maybe it would include the aforementioned stereotypical descriptions of geeks?

See? I didn't think an interest in books was geekish either but all the boys seem to think so!!!

see, people like to think books=geek, especially in the library world. these are the same people who think that libraries are just about books and reading. no, they aren't. if they want that, they should work in a bookstore.

It's not the interest in reading that is geeky but rather the depth of knowledgo one has on a subject which makes it geeky or not. I have a mild fascination with psychology but I'm not a psychology geek, on the other hand, a certain programme on Sky which is in it's mid season break at present I am a total geek about and can tell you everything to do with the programme.

it's the depth that matters most.

i'm sorry, but if people are really into books, isn't that what a book store is for? i know libraries have lots of books, but we're more interested in organizing them for people to find, not so much talking about them.

Yeah but we also organise them and display them commercially, we're not only interested in books we're interested in making money, libraries & librarians are purely interested in books

no, that's a fallacy. libraries and librarians are interested in information, which is often contained in books.

I work closely with several librarians and libraries who are MUCH more obsessed with books than I am. I even have a trained librarian who works for me and for all of them it's all about the books. Maybe there's a difference between American and British librarians. Maybe you are not the norm or maybe they're not but in my experience Librarians are much more obsessed with books than booksellers are.

However, having said that, I am a little obsessed with books, reading and recommending books but I think that is because I hate the idea that people don't experience the joy of reading, expanding their knowledge through the written word and general escapism that could relieve the pressures of modern day life.

Does someone want to remind S4B that Kendra is a librarian?

My mum is a retired librarian, and in my experience kendra is right - libraries and librarians are about information and how to give people access to it. Its less and less about books, especially these days.

I love books though.

No. I think we should sit back and see where this goes.

I know and I hadn't forgotten that Kendra is a librarian just as she hadn't forgotten that I work in a book store!
