I prefer Red Snapper, or the simple Cod.

Don't really know about snapper, as far as I am aware it has to come from fisheries a hell of a long way away, which means I would be unlikely to buy it as whenever possible I prefer to eat stuff which hasn't had to fly to get to me. Within reason. As for cod, I love it, but I don't eat endangered species any more than I would wear a tiger skin coat (rabbit yes, tiger no!).

Just don't go to a chippy in the South of England cos they can't make chips. Stay in the North and you'll be fine.

Haha that's a bit of a sweeping statement.. I've been to some fantastic chippies down here.

As a proud southerner I'd love to be able to take exception to that comment. Unfortunately I can't because it's true. Hmph.

I know, I kinda did it deliberately. But I do also kinda believe it - maybe I'm just being a bloody-minded Northerner, but i really don't think they know how to make chips.

I don't know if this does hold true, but I've always been told that the difference is that in the south chippies tend to use vegetable oil for frying, in the north, animal fat (dripping, lard or whatever), and this means you can fry at a better temperature giving a better chip. But it can't be that, because Nicola wouldn't be eating chips from a chippie that used animal fat for frying, So I don't know what it is.

Nah, all the chippies I've been to (with the exception of Harry Ramsden's) fry in veggie oil - you can usually see the big vats of it stacked up behind the counter. So I don't know what it is either!

I reckon Whitby must be the pinnacle of places to eat fish and chips. I must try it one day.

There was a place near me when I lived in Clapham that charged £6 for take out and £8 if you ate in.

Yeah but it must have been posh.. I can tell by the fact that you could eat in there.

Not really, a bit trendy but not posh although they had all sorts of different fish you could buy from them...

Stop ruining all my fun and making me feel guilty about food that is so tasty, it's not as if I'm eating whale or anything.

I'd hate to have to give up fish. What CAN I eat?

You can eat whatever you like Andy, I'm not telling you you can't eat cod, or monkfish, or battery chickens - I'm just telling you what it actually is that you're eating. Then you can make a decision with all the relevant information to hand. What that decision is is up to you!

Monkfish is endangered? I didn't know that.

But Everyone is making me feel really guilty about what I eat...I just want to eat stuff and not care about where it comes from....

I'm a slave to my consciounse (oh how do you spell that word, the voice in your head that tells you when you're doing bad things). Normaly it's asleep but everyone's woken it up again now and it's bossy!

No one is making you feel guilty. If guilt is the natural response to the facts you are being presented with, thats not anyone else's fault, And how you respond to that feeling is up to you. The only thing thats happening here is that some of us are not playing along with your denial. That doesn't mean you can't continue it, just that we won't be joining you!
