This is a bit of a random thought, but it has happened because of the R1 "clock" discussion in General.

Anyhow, I was thinking, wouldn't it be great if there was a little R1 shop that we could get things from : mugs, T-towels, T-shirts, etc., etc.?

No, it wouldn't be great.

Me too. It would be great to be an actual "walking ad".

Yeah, if they paid you for the privilege and the fact you would look like a tit.

Well, you wouldn't need to look like a "tit" if you just wore a limited amount of stuff. For example, a T-shirt. Or drank your morning mug of tea/coffee out on the main road, rather than in the house.

You'd still look like a tit.

Most local BBC stations have a shop attatched to them where you can buy generic BBC goods (Doctor Who, Life on Mars etc...) not sure if you can get things specific to that station.

I know at R1 you can get the official publicity photos of the presenters, I'm always tempted to nip in on my lunch and grab a load but I can never be bothered.

Although I am just up the road from BBC South East today in Brighton today and tomorrow so if anyone wants anything from there just let me know!

I wouldn't say "no" to a mug.

Any particular kind? Design? I'll see if I can get one with one of the local presenters on.....

I'd have liked one of those cartoon "supermoyles" mugs, I thought they were nice.

Nope, anything with BBC marked on it would do. :-)

Cos in a few years they'll change their logo to fit in with current focus group research and she'll look silly at first but in later years it'll be called "retro" and cool again.

Haha. That would look so classy!

I guess mugs are okay, but i dunno why anyone would want to be a walking advert for anything, especially an unpaid one.

A BBC tattoo will never be cool. Then again, neither will a t-shirt or a mug.

andy b, what you do is get a logo that's already retro. problem solved!

the only corporate logo i'd get tattooed on me is the old dr pepper logo, because i love that stuff. i am going to get my radio station's call letters tattooed on me, but we don't have an official logo.

Ooooh never understood why they all have to have letters instead of "Proper" names....I know it's like all the west coast have a K and east have a W or something like that isn't it?

the straight dope on call letters.

basically, it's a hold over from the telegraph and the fcc uses it to identify stations by their license. radio stations must legally identify themselves once an hour like, "k-a-l-x berkeley".

Actually that law still exists over here (or used to anyway, I'm a bit out of the loop) but most stations mention their name every 15 seconds these days anyway so it's a bit redundant....

I will read that thing - later I'm at work but for now do stations get to choose their letters provided no-one else has them?

My mate works for them, I spend a lot of time there sadly....
