Vivienne wrote:"Religion without science is blind, and science without religion lame. Science should support faith, and turn it into something more potent".

There is no chance science can ever support faith as people of a religious persuasion almost always have a closed mind and think nobody except 'god' has the right to have any answers.

In my opinion science so far has many more plausible answers than the oversized door stop the church put their faith in. It's only my opinion, but think it's helpful for some people to believe that the church is the way. It gives them comfort when they need it, and answers when they need answers-however far fetched those answers may be.

Did one of the Dan Brown books not have a story line where there was a scientist who was also very religious? Can't remember how it ended, I think it possibly resulted in the Vatican coming crashing down or summit, so maybe not a great example.

Look, I really wasn't trying to wind others up. Andy B! If you're still about, check this:

my latest novel is partly about a girl who loses her twin, as they are separated physically during an operation. Now, in the book is a fascinating idea for an experiment... I'll quote a piece:

"ever heard of entanglement?"

"It's a ghostly, almost telepathic link between quantum particles that have interacted at some time in the past. The connection is instantaneous and works even if the particles are on opposite sides of the Universe"!!

Yup I've heard of it...it's proven too. One particle spins one way and the other spins the opposite now matter how far apart they are with no form of communication between them.

It has been verified (according to some) but it's very difficult to produce in a lab.

I was under the impression that quantum entanglement ("spooky action at a distance") hadn't (like all of Quantum Theory) been proved yet. Still, it is an interesting piece of theory.

Viv, it has nothing to do with psychic phenomena in humans.

It's just in my book, Console.. they are making the twin (still alive) "die" in her dreams, then bring her back, then do it again.. so they can establish some kind of "loop".

The most ridiculous ending to what was a fantastic piece of writing.

Well, it's currently being made into a film with Tom Hanks again.

I'll still watch the film, as the book was great. Just think the ending was poor, almost like he ran out of time.

Well, it's later than you think.

I thought Angels & Demons was the better of the two books.
As for Oprah and this circular pathway that we need to go down every "fecking week"...Oh dear. If I hadn't laughed out loud at Footsy's comment then I most certainly did with Zoot's. Ha! That was class! I suppose we should view it like an old pair of slippers that you lose for a day or two and yet know they'll crop right back up again and they'll be exactly the same. Same shit, different day. Bit like Groundhog Day.

It's only s***, Sunny Cal, if you wish to learn nothing new! Everytime one of these topics has come up, I know I've learned something. Thanx to Cons. & Andy B., I've discovered some fascinating physics websites. :-)

Fair point. So far today I've learned you don't so much value Einstein's opinion but you hold great stock in Oprah's.

Actually, you know what, I value all opinions, from people on here, to those on TV, to Einstein, to everyone. Thanx.

Right. And that's what makes you, you, Viv. I wasn't saying anything against it. Personally, as alluded to above, I find it oddly comforting to know that the conversation will come back around to faith versus science. You can't tell but I'm actually hoping you win one of these times.

It's OK. I've probably sounded a bit confused re: the Oprah stuff, and didn't actually mean to. :-)

The reason I complained about it is because it tends to end up with you getting worked up at everyone that disagrees with you. Hence the question of why we need to go through the same performance over and over again. However, you seem to be in your 'happy' place today so fair enough.

do you know nothing about women foots - what am I on about? Of course not ;)

Women ask the same questions over and over again. At the start of the month my missus gets really down and says her life is crap. I spend hours listening to her and then she starts to feel
much better but the next
month she says the EXACT same stuff again almost word for word.

And there seems to no limit to the amount of times a woman can ask "do you love me?" no matter what you do for them or how many times you tell them you do.

It's not a fault it's just the way women are. They're different to
blokes.

Although I'm guessing you should know that by now.

Hah, cheeky git. I think I know as much about women as you do! If not more!

However, when it comes to woman based questions, i don't even bother getting involved. I don't think a religious debate is quite the same though.

Damn right - in a religious debate you at least have a chance to get the right answer.

We all do it. It isn't dependent on monthly cycles. It's whenever the mood strikes. Not the "do you love me" but asking the same questions or bringing up old history. It is a woman thing and it was very perceptive of you, Andy!

Console your remark was sheer brilliance.
