There is no chance science can ever support faith as people of a religious persuasion almost always have a closed mind and think nobody except 'god' has the right to have any answers.
In my opinion science so far has many more plausible answers than the oversized door stop the church put their faith in. It's only my opinion, but think it's helpful for some people to believe that the church is the way. It gives them comfort when they need it, and answers when they need answers-however far fetched those answers may be.
