The sequel to "Life on Mars", entitled "Ashes to Ashes" will begin this Thursday at 9 p.m.

Vernon spoke on Saturday to the new female character, D. I. Alex Drake, played by Keeley Hawes, which was quite interesting.

Keeley plays a psychological profiler.

The new series is set in 1981, and there's even a rubix cube episode!!

Keeley's husband and former Spooks co-star Matthew MacFadyen will make a guest appearance later in the series.

Do you think this will be good, or would it have been better left at just one series?

I started off really enjoying Life on Mars, and then was really disappointed with the way it ended.

Was thinking of watching this, but think I'll probably just let it pass me by... incase they finish this up in a similar way

Is Ashes to Ashes not similar in that the Alex Drake character is going from the current day to back to the 80's ?

However, scheduling it on a Thursday renders me pretty much unable to watch it because I have plans that I can't reschedule and I don't have the luxuries of Sky Plus. Does anyone know if it's repeated later in the week?

I'm pretty sure they'll have it repeated, and i'm almost certain it'll be on the iPlayer to watch again.

I watched a few episodes of Life on Mars, but they were pretty much all the same, and I got bored with the characterizations. It was like - yeah, ok, stereotype seventies cop, integrated new-man type sensitive and cultured soul - I get it, now do something interesting!

Wha'ts the idea behind the title 'Ash's to Ash's'? the only connection i can see between that and 'Life are Mars' is that they are both Bowie songs. Is that the only reason?

I guess that will be the reason, Zoots. Fact Fans, "Ashes to Ashes" was released by David Bowie in August 1980, one year before the setting of this new series.

I think they wanted to use the title of a Bowie song from around the era that this new show was set. If you think about the eventual conclusion that most people took from the first series (though it was a little ambiguous), Ashes to Ashes would make sense I suppose.

I've done a fair bit of trawling through all the press and hype this new series has been given, and good god it must be worth all the fuss..

Watched preview clips, seen pictures, read interviews, even heard audio of interviews - its all out there on this great vehicle we call the internets. The thing I read which left me with little doubt this new show will kick off is the bit where they say how keen they were to give Ashes a life of its own, and not copy what LoM did. Glennister said he wouldnt have done it if it didn't work. Then theres the new twist - far bigger and greater than Sam's coma, "Keep me in the dark" said Philip, who plays Gene, when he was offered info on key plotlines for the new series, its good, its all gravy.

Keeley looks great in real life, on Vernon's show, complete contrast to her "rough, overly made up" onscreen alias.

I loved L.O.M. Bought the box sets, which is often the way I prefer to watch tv series.
I've also read as many articles as possible.
John Simm is such a good actor I think he will be a tough act to follow.

Hopefully the show will be significantly different enough for the new lady to shine!

Read in the Sun Today that the woman in it is supposed to be a psychotherapist or something who was reading Sam's notes then gets shot so she already knows all about them when she gets there which is why she faints in that preview on t'net
