Thought i would put the day and date in just to remind people when it is.

However, Am i the only person in the country who is sick of Valentines Day? Just seems to me that its an american-ised, commercial-ised, crap invention that means most blokes having to shell out not much less than £50 just to keep there partners happy.

So is it just me?

nope, not just you. I find it a pain in the backside trying to think up something decent to buy each year.

If you get something really decent one year, the next they expect something even better 8O

No idea what to get him though as a present. Doesn't help our 6 months is 3 days after. I'm supposed to know him a bit by now to at least get him something half decent!

As i said to you yesterday, its ok for those who have partners.

And Foots, was the dog of female, human variety, or the 4 legged, woof type?

I am shopping for a gift tonight. I already have a shortlist and know which shops I'm going into.

We usually go out for a really nice dinner and spend the whole evening togeather.... as we are both so busy at the moment it will be nice to chill out with a bottle of wine... we are going to a really nice place for a dinner and dance evening... although i am a bit worried that its going to be full of old people, but who cares, it will be a nice evening... oh and I am getting flowers sent to her work... she likes things like that!

See, now this is a prime example of my main problem with Valentines Day.

Because of the "nature of the day", people feel the need to have to do all this stuff on 1 specific day in the middle of February. But surely, if you really loved someone, then it could be done any time of the year? And neither person would need a stupid commercial day to "prove their undying love for each other"?

My view anyway...

I do kind of agree, but it's tradition and romantic gestures are in no way restricted to Valentine's Day.

I agree. It's the same with Christmas - infact Christmas is worse, everyone is shelling out £50+ on many people. Ban all holidays and special events, I say. Death to capitalisation and the big corporations.

I know its tradition but isnt this now why most women say that "the age of chivelry (sp?) and gentlemen has gone"?

Tickets to something he'll appreciate. For our first Valentine's Day, Mrs Topher took me to see REM.

I agree with wurzel. But then I don't buy into any of the Hallmark Holidays (mothers day, fathers day, granparents day, pet rabbit day, whatever). I don't want Mr Yudster wasting any money on it when I already know he loves me.

Good good. You know it makes sense :p. Glad someone else sees my point of view.

lulz.

valentines day will always be marred as the day i was diagnosed with cancer. last year i gave the "mr" a couple of things and he didn't really do anything. we were going to cook a nice dinner, but that didn't happen. this year? he'll probably get sappy that i'm alive and i'll be doing homework.
