That's not what I asked. Are you directly offended by them? Do you fall into the category of people that you feel Moyles is forgetting?

Sotonian wrote:I have explained why I find the choice of words offensive now it's your turn to explain why failing to recognise that the words used could be offensive and upsetting to some you feel it right to defend them.

Because there is no apparent intention to cause harm, and it's only with a very limited view that they can be deemed offensive. Even then, it would have to take an overly sensitive person to actually become 'hurt' by a simple generalisation of 'everybody'. You can please some people all of the time, and all people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time. And sometimes there's just people that you can never win with and just have to forget. It is impossible to constantly be considering the feelings of every person on the planet, and, frankly, pathetic to expect a person to do so. Get over it, the world isn't perfect.

Yes I am directly offended by the lack of recognition given to those who are disabled. Whether I am disabled or not does not alter that and is therefore none of your business.

I find the words used offensive for reasons already explained. Moyles claims to be a communicator, indeed in his book "The Difficult Second Book" he majors on how communicating with an audience via the medium of radio is the culmination of his life long ambition. A good communicator would be aware of the sensitivities, and not only those proscribed by law, of all sections of society. In this challenge he has, in my opinion, failed dismally. Whether he wrote the message or approved it it is insensitive.

Frankly I find your defence of his choice of words curious and must assume that you are what is known as a "fan". There is then little point in continuing the debate as my opinion will not change and clearly neither will yours. I have raised my objections and hopefully Moyles will take them into account, assuming he ever reads this site and doesn't employ others to do it for him. If he does take heed of my objections and takes more care with his pronouncements in future I shall be happy.

None of my business, maybe not, but I think it is relevant. If you're not disabled then your assuming that those that are would be offended by this most innocent of remarks. That those that have this disability are unable to take such insulting words. If I were disabled I would most certainly not want you speaking for me.

Sotonian wrote:Moyles claims to be a communicator, indeed in his book "The Difficult Second Book" he majors on how communicating with an audience via the medium of radio is the culmination of his life long ambition. Good use of the word 'claims', are you trying to imply that he's not a communicator? Rhetoric, don't bother answering. As for being aware, who are you to say he's not? I think we would agree that he's not being deliberately 'offensive' (if such a term could be used here), and from what you've said I think we'd also agree that he doesn't think his words are 'offensive'. So, you're complaint is still that he didn't consider everyone on the planet. Now, a perfect 'communicator' may be able to do that, but, as I've already said, nobody's perfect.

Sotonian wrote:Frankly I find your defence of his choice of words curious and must assume that you are what is known as a "fan".

I would have thought that you would have already assumed this, considering that this is a Chris Moyles fansite after all. But, I suppose that there are a few here that aren't fans. I would assume, from your words, that you are not a fan, for example. Am I correct in this assumption?

Sotonian wrote:There is then little point in continuing the debate as my opinion will not change and clearly neither will yours.

Stubbornness does seem to be a trait that we both possess, for better or for worse.

Sotonian wrote:I have raised my objections and hopefully Moyles will take them into account, assuming he ever reads this site and doesn't employ others to do it for him.

He does, at least we think he does, but I seriously doubt that it'll make a huge difference. You're probably better off contacting Sport Relief and lodging a formal complaint with them, over the hatred Moyles has shown in his message for charity.

Sotonian wrote:If he does take heed of my objections and takes more care with his pronouncements in future I shall be happy.

Would it be possible for you to be happy if he did not? I would think it a shame if your happiness lied in the hands (or the mouth) of someone that you don't appear to like.

You're probably Gay and Black, as well as stupid and a spaz then ?

Seriously leave it out. The point is that as individuals we should put our selves out. If as a spaz you do a wipe your own ass for a day them cool, it's not the point.

So who are you to deny me the right to an opinion? Just because it differs from yours doesn't make it any less valid. Why can you not accept that simple fact .... stupid question for me to ask one so young I know but I live in hope.

As for boboff .... frankly mate I refuse to enter into a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent so you can piss off.

I am not trying to deny your opinion, just trying to see your justification for it, while putting across and justifying my own. Where have I tried to deny your right to an opinion?

Sotonian wrote:Just because it differs from yours doesn't make it any less valid.

True, but it doesn't make your opinion worthwhile either.

Sotonian wrote:Why can you not accept that simple fact

I can absolutely accept that other peoples opinion can differ from mine, and probably do on a wide range of subjects. I can also absolutely accept that other peoples opinions can be valid, whether that be in conjunction with my own or negating my own. Why would you think that I thought otherwise? A baseless assumption maybe? A trend it seems.

Sotonian wrote:stupid question for me to ask one so young I know but I live in hope.

So cutting, and so painful - your words bleed me. I am young, younger than some at least, I'm not sure why that'd be a factor here though; but, you are, of course, entitled to your opinion on the matter.

So we must agree to disagree .... and are you mature enough to accept that or will you continue with your sixth form style of debate, demanding justification whilst stating that my opinion is not worthwhile anyway? Now if you were to place the caveat "In my opinion" in there somewhere fair enough but it is the terrible black or white of your statements togther with the selective cutting in of quotes that makes your youth soooooooooooo obvious.

Anyway I looked at your profile. :D

Anyway it matters not ... I have had my say.

I'll say goodnight now as I expect you'll be fast asleep when I get back. See you again another day I expect.

I thought some of the money from Sports Relief went to help disabled kids etc? Any which way - Moyles is promoting charity which is there to do good. How anyone can object to that is beyond me. I know you're complaining about the choice of words that were used but seriously dude - get a grip.

I know nothing about you or your situation, but everyone has things in life they can get themselves offended about if they wanted to... and some things are maybe worth it. Other times though, people get so wound up over the little things that it all gets blown out of proportion.

Sotonian wrote:I have raised my objections and hopefully Moyles will take them into account, assuming he ever reads this site and doesn't employ others to do it for him

He doesn't. He thinks we all hate him.

Ah .... the resident ping pong expert from Milton Keynes strikes again, riding on someone elses coat-tails and thinking they are being witty. Half term is it?

I've no idea if it's half term or not, it may be for all I know; I don't have any kids, so I wouldn't know that information.

Seriously.. what is the point in coming on to a Chris Moyles fan site and trying to vent your frustration to people who clearly don't agree with your overly PC views. You have accused Console of rejecting other people's views, but it seems to be a case of pots and kettles.

Go and start pointless arguments with someone else.

Really? And you called (what you referred to as) 'selective quoting' a trick, when you're using the old 'change the topic to throw people' trick? For shame.

You still haven't answered this. I'd like to know what your response is because I don't believe there is a reasoned one.

I believe that everyone is entitled to an opinion and, in this country, we are allowed to express those opinions. It would hardly make sense to complain about something allegedly said by Chris Moyles on the Women's Institute web site or the Number 10 blog would it? This was the appropriate place to air my opinion. I have done so and moved on ..... can you?

Is adoration of Moyles a prerequisite? I thought this site was open to all (didn't one of you say that Moyles thinks you all hate him anyway?) TBH I have never listened to him and I doubt that I ever will. I have read his books (took all of an hour) though and they gave me a flavour of the man. His language is pretty foul at tmes and his opinions seem a tad immature but I expect when he does a Chris Evans and it all goes tits up you'll find another to adore.

But as has been implied in this thread the site bears his name but he doesn't actually read or contribute to it so fanship is hardly necessary. I am here to debate and have some fun. Why are you here .... because you are in love with a fat, foul mouthed, self confessed slob?

Er ...... I merely posted my opinion. I did not post a reply to anyone's comments and for my pains I got jumped on by several of you. Not so much as a "hello newby" or anything. So this morning I thought "Let's be nice and make a fresh start with a cheery greeting" Fat lot of good it did but never mind ... we're all here now.

If you don't mind my asking is it always this thin on posters?

Bless you .... I just read your most recent post, typed whilst I was making a cuppa and typing the above. You're upping your game I'm pleased to see. Don't make me laugh too much .... my head hurts 8)

I would agree.

Sotonian wrote:It would hardly make sense to complain about something allegedly said by Chris Moyles on the Women's Institute web site or the Number 10 blog would it? This was the appropriate place to air my opinion.

No, but your original post was written as though it was directed at Moyles, which, when you consider this is his unofficial fan site, may or may not be read by him. We don't have direct access to members of the show (except Aled sometimes) and the in my opinion, the 'appropriate' place to vent your views would be the Sport Relief marketing department.

Sotonian wrote:Is adoration of Moyles a prerequisite? I thought this site was open to all

It's not a prerequisite, but one would assume that to join this place you should at least have an interest in the man, otherwise what is the point.

Sotonian wrote:didn't one of you say that Moyles thinks you all hate him anyway?

Yes, that is a bit of a running gag. The material he gets out of a fan site who supposedly 'hate' him is a lot better than he would get out of a normal fan site.

Sotonian wrote:TBH I have never listened to him and I doubt that I ever will.

You should give it a try one day, you may be surprised. It's fairly well accepted now, even by journalists who used to pan him, that his on-air persona is not a reflection on his personality at all. Most who have met him agree he is a genuinely nice bloke.

Sotonian wrote:I have read his books (took all of an hour) though and they gave me a flavour of the man. His language is pretty foul at tmes and his opinions seem a tad immature but I expect when he does a Chris Evans and it all goes tits up you'll find another to adore.

I think most would agree that the books do not give a decent flavour. They're alright, but radio is his forte. You should give him a listen one day.

Love is a bit of a strong word. I consider myself a fan.

foot-loose wrote:How do you seem to know so much about Topher if you have never visited here before?

I think he got it from my signature and and the location on my profile.

Having said all that, if you are genuinely here to discuss things nicely, then welcome. I can't say I understand the reasoning behind joining a fan site dedicated to someone you can't stand, but that's your prerogative I suppose.
