I'm guessing Kent is about to feel a lot of love soon

Judging by the amount of Facebook groups that have popped up since the announcement it appears so. Out of interest, how do you decide where to go for outdoor events?

It's a complicated formula worked on by the top Radio 1 management. Many things are taken into account including which councils are willing to help - proximity of audience and servicing areas that Radio 1 haven't done much with lately.

Listnership will be taken into account - but isn't the whole story. I doubt other festivals will play a part - but I could be wrong.

If so has anyone ever made you sing because of it?

OH! Daily! Made even worse now that we're both BBC Radio

Aled, why in god's name do Radio One sensor the word 'drugs' in Rockstar by Nickelback. The local commercial stations don't edit it out so why Radio 1?
Also why do some songs spend 3 years on the playlist and people don't like them that much, yet some songs will spend about a week on the playlist, never make it past C list but still be a really good song.
I also want to know why the new Fountains of Wayne stuff was never played at all. Granted the new stuff was no Stacy's Mum, but still really poppy and catchy none the less.
Incidentally I am enjoying the show very much nowadays, it is clear you all are not becoming complacent and I value your comedic input too. Thanks Aled!

I was wondering this the other day too. The word 'ass' is also silenced out - that surely can't be on the censored word list, can it? Or is it just a generic radio copy?

Aled, I've got to ask this? When will R1 be picking up Madonna's new album. It will be out at the end of March, the first song is called "4 minutes", and a French Radio Station have apparently already played it (or at least an edited version). :-)

ps : good luck with Sport Relief stuff! :-)

Aled.. don't succumb to the evil Kit Kat pushers. Twix is clearly better.

foot-loose wrote:Aled. Do you agree with me that Kit Kats are waaaaaaaaaaay better than Twixs?

Twixs are all gooey whereas Kit Kats are tasty, wafery goodness at only 107 calories a pop!

I'm happy to send you bribes if that helps?

Kit Kats are boring!

Although, Kit Kat chunky is a whoooooooooooooole different story! They should do a 4 bar of Kit Kat chunky! Now THAT would rock!

Psst! Aled.. it's Ms Rustybike.

I made the same mistake.

SO sorry!

It's ok, i'm regularly mistaken for a geezer; especially in Subway for some strange reason although I get free food because of it which is a bonus!

Oh! speaking of which.

Aled,

1) Do you ever get free stuff because of who you are/where you work?
2) Have you ever blagged free entry or stuff because of who you are/where you work?

Ooh massively controversial this one. We have only just had a new talking to by the bosses about what we can and can't do in this area. So let me answer with what I CAN do and let you determine whether I've done it or more.

1) PR companies are not allowed to buy me because I'm BBC staff, so stuff that's given to me so that I'll give them an ad on a BBC network hence getting around the BBC rules are very much not allowed. Stuff that's given to us that gets used for editorial reasons (i.e. will help me do my job) is more tollerated e.g. CDs

2) I can only use my job to get me access to places if it helps me do my job. If I use my job in social circumstances either suggesting they'll get something on the show or because of who I am it's a no-no.

I can't speak for other stations, but that was the edit we were given by the record company.

They edited the track and called it the "Radio edit" so we played it.

I've not heard of the french radio station - believe me that was royally pee the record company off. We will be playlisting the track as soon as it's given to us (which for the first time will be when the song is downloadable and therefore chart eligible).

In the past if a radio station breaks an embargo we will run with it straight away. We've not been given a firm date yet, we won't know till a day before but it's this or next week. Unfortunately it won't be us playing (on the show) it first as it'll have a breakfast global launch time for America so it'll probably be Scott.

Not at all Baggie, I was just pleased he was leaving the field clearer for me. One less person to be jealous of, is all!

Aled, when are you going to do an international broadcast from California? Don't do it from Los Angeles -- pick San Diego. We're prettier and...they smell of wee.

Shw mae Aled!

Do you ever get tempted/asked to go out and have a few too many woo-woos the evening before a show?
If so, any tips on how to recover and, amazingly, still be up at 5am would come in handy ;)
Cheers! :D

Oh one other thing...

Would it be possible to put the 'Going For Girls!' feature from this morning up on the enhanced podcast? It'd be great to see the pictures you lot were talking about as it happened :D
There, promise i'll shut up now ;)
