British Summer time will soon be officially upon us! How exciting! Clocks go forward, and the nights get lighter!

In a way, it's exciting though, because after puting up with so many dark evenings, finally there is light! I'm sooooo excited by this.

I think out definitions of 'exciting' differ somewhat. Also, the evenings will get lighter without the change-over to BST.

Sorry to double post, but I think the fact that bluebells will soon be here is great, daffodils, tulips, the works... leaves back on trees... it's almost too much excitement for the one person. :-)

Ah yes, now there's a reason for BST.

Console, your problem is you just sit and analyse too much, rather than just accepting Spring into your life.

I quite like the dark evenings myself...I'd rather have it lighter in the mornings.

Didn't they try doing without one year (years ago, in the 70s or something) and it caused chaos because kids were getting out of school in the dark.. something like that anyway.

I think what they did was have BST (+1) all year round. However, as far as school-children are concerned, the only difference was that it was darker in the morning - not a good thing. It doesn't really affect the afternoon in the Summer.

A colleague used the springtime to propose to his girlfriend.

He planted 100's of daffodills on the side of a mountain in Scotland and waited until the daffs were in bloom and took her on a camping trip and pitched tent and then the following day took her for a ramble through the countryside and there in the side of this mountain planted in daffodills were the words "Will you marry me" and after such a romantic gesture she said no! He even had arranged a night at a luxury castle hotel and spa and a candle lit meal for that night instead he ended up traveling back home life in shatters! Heart breaking :(

But in general roll on the springtime I say! :D

It must really suck to do all that preparation for a proposal and then get turned down, But maybe taking her camping was not the best idea.

Why would you hope he made her walk all the way home, unless you were a complete *?

There was a discussion about this on Radio 4 on friday. Apparently there was a motion in the Commons to get rid of it but it was overturned.

I can't remember exact details but it was something to do with the Scottish complaining.

So obviously I blame Foot-Loose

Spot on - camping? If he'd booked them into a romantic little hotel with log fires and comfy beds and private bathrooms and hot water - and then taken her up to the mountainside, he'd have had a lot more chance. But camping? Oh no.
