Time to get the brains working, people!! The following question was on Vernon's show this morning:-

Mrs Young is 7 times older than her daughter, but in 25 years time she will only be twice as old.

Therefore, how old is Mrs Young?

I don't actually know what the answer is, because I left to go and compute before the result, but hopefully someone will have been listening to the test of the quiz.

7D + 25 = 2D + 50
D = 5 => The mother is 35.

If a person walks for 5 miles in a perfectly straight line turns 90 degrees to the right then walks for a further 5 straight miles, stops turns 90 degrees to the right and walks for a further 5 miles in a straight line. How is it that he has returned to the same position from where he started the journey?

You'd have to either start at one of the poles, or 5.796 miles from one of the poles facing the nearest pole. Of course, both of these require you to bend the definition of a straight line.

To truly do it in a straight line, I suppose you'd have to do the walk on a treadmill, which is on a turntable - in which case you could do it pretty much anywhere.
