I feel that horse racing is really cruel and needless...I won't harp on about it but I will post this link so anyone who might be interested can have a read (I put it in my facebook status for the day too)

I finally understand how betting works. I still didn't win any money though.

Well Simon let me down again but I had a nice little each way bet come
in so I'm okay. The missus got the winner and King john castle each way. She stands to pick up
nearly £200 for her efforts.

I ended up "winning" £20 but I staked £40 so I'm £20 down on the day. I still made sure my
"winnings" were spent well though. I was celebrating my win big time with a bottle of corona! I was well away!

Oh yes. Got my tickets for the final today! Been on the net in a cafe early this morning. £280 for centre line 1st tier tickets my mate tried an
hour later and they had gone. He said he'd seen some on EBay for £700 already.

I am going to wembley!

See, that to me is excessive, I don't know why people put so much on.

I doubt they'll be there long, I think eBay's pretty strict on removing football tickets.

I put £2 on Comply Or Die to win.....I don't believe in Each Way bets as it's technically saying that you are doouble guessing your prediction. Nice £22 win tho, went towards a meal that evening!

I organised the office sweepstake, and I've only gone and won the thing. There's uproar here, but I tell you I'm innocent, it's no fix.

Ah the only way to avoid such accusations is not to enter yourself, but then that's no fun.

It's only excessive if you can't afford it. Andy is a bookie, he can!

I never understand that. If you have something you don't want why can't you sell it? And if someone is stupid enough to offer you a ridiculous price for it, why may you not take it?

Because these people don't just have a couple of tickets spare as a friend couldn't make it, they hoover up as many tickets as they can and then exploit genuine fans who can't get tickets via conventional means (thanks to the touts buying them all up) by charging exorbitant amounts on ebay. It's a business and, when it comes to football, it's also illegal as you're not allowed to resell football tickets. Unfortunately it's still legal to resell concert tickets.

Anyway, to summarise, ticket touts = lowest of the low.

"It's illegal" would have been enough, to be honest......!

Yup I can afford it and so I don't consider it excessive, as I always say to people, only bet what you can afford to lose, £40 is a lunchtime pub session to me and I'd just been paid so it was £40 I could afford to lose, trust me people staked a LOT more than me on the day.

That I don't doubt. I wonder what the largest single bet was.

Probably done on betfair...that's where all the "allegedly" dodgy deals go on...(I'm well aware that adding allegedly doesn't mean you can't be sued for libel but it's better than the Sun where they use that ubiquitous phrase "an anonymous friend of....")

How did that end up in here?

It's meant to be in reply to Andy Bs post in the Doctor Who thread. Console, can you move things about? Plus, is there something odd happening with replies, i've seen others saying similar?
