This is my other topic, into which quizzes and other stuff will go. :-) !!!

Here is the first of the topics. This one covers the new film, "The Eye"... it's basically about a girl who gets new eyes from a dead person, only she then finds she is having flashbacks to the other person's former life.

This is an actual phenomenon, and many people claim to have experienced it. It's the concept that a person has never really died, and the organs they have left still contain their energy in some way.. I think it is fascinating. I am currently looking into this.

No it isn't. A phenomenon is something that actually happens, albeit rarely, while this is bollocks.

Why do you always dismiss everything! People out there claim this HAS happened. There is a name for it... I was reading it just last night in a magazine.

Bollocks. What is the name of this phenomenon?

That said, the film looks alright.

People saying they have experienced it is a phenomenon though. The genesis of those experiences is in question, I'd agree with that.

There is a name.. I've not got the magazine cut-out with me :-( I shall go and google it, and see what I can find.

The name of the magazine will help establish whether it's bollocks or not, but basically it is.

I don't dismiss everything, but the obviously nonsensical does immediately go out the window for me. Oh, and the people that claim it has happened to them are either lying or delusional (or both). Which part of the eye is supposed to be storing these memories? Because I was under the impression that the eye was just an optical sensor and that it was the brain that processed and stored the images.

Yeah, typical.. See what you think is nonsense, and just boot it out the window!! I read somewhere about people having heart operations, who have claimed that their personality has changed in some way. It's fascinating.

The eyes would have belonged to a previous person, with a PERSONALITY (are you familiar with this word?).

You mean the personality that is determined by a persons experiences and memories and the unique neural pathways of the brain, that has absolutely nothing to do with the eyes or any other part of the body? That personality?

Fact remains though, people "oout there" do claim that such things have happened to them. I think it's rubbish too, but to be fair, all Viv has said id that she is going to try to look into it some more.

Everything makes up a person, so naturally what the person would have SEEN or EXPERIENCED with their own EYES would have been retained in memory, and passed on. I believe the movie is based on this concept.

The point Console is making is that memory is a function of the brain, not the cornea (which is the part of the eye involved in a transplant).

Viv, the eyes are just a tool, a receiver of information (in this case electromagnetic information) - their job is just to get the information and deliver it to the brain, they doesn't store it, or do anything with it, they just pass it on. The memories of a person are stored in the brain of a person, and the brain alone.

But the brain uses the eyes to see everything, to retain information, and to gather in experiences. Damn, I wish I had my magazine with me. There IS an actual name for this stuff. I shall have it in due course.

I agree with Viv, I bought a German car, and I became arrogant, I bought a French Aftershave, and I smelled awful, and I bought and Irish lottery ticket and I started doing things just for the craic, weird.

I also said that I didn't have the talent to do it. I also don't currently have any GUI image editing software installed on my computer.
