I've just got a letter from my bank telling me they're charging me £35 for being over my overdraft limit for roughly 7 hours! How the hell does that work!?

i thought they couldnt charge you if brought your account back in to the black within 24 hours.....or did it cross midnight?

Are you 100% sure it went in at midnight, because sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it goes in in the early hours of the morning?

Nope it went in at midnight I've checked! I'll call them tomorrow when I've calmed down.

Now I'm also annoyed that people don't believe me when I say I haven't done something! (Not you Topher) I don;t tell lies and some people should realise that and believe me instead of believing vicious rumours!

No one is ever nice to me Foots! I may get Mr S4 to do it. He's calmer than me but then he is the one who's spent the money!

Why?

Ok, I know why, and to a degree I sympathise, but i'm going to play the devils advocate here.

If you broke the rules, why is the bank at fault? If you agreed to their terms and conditions, why should you be entitled to a refund from them?

Because it says that I have to pay the charges for every 24 hours I am over my overdraft limit. I was only over it for 7 hours! Ergo I don;t have to pay!

Is that not interest it is talking about? The charge of £35 is a one off fee. Interest will then be calculated at a daily rate.

(I've learned a lot ;))

I get a one off charge of £25 for being over drawn for 24 hours then £15 for each subsequent 24 hours plus interest! I hate bankers!

We would only have charged you £12 then a daily interest rate. We rock!

Surely you asked for it though? Banks generally in the habit of just sticking them onto accounts for no reason?

There is a reason though!

She buggered the rules to buggery! Thats why the bank has buggered her! If she hadnt buggered them in the first place, there would be no return buggery!

See if I wrote the T&Cs - it would involve the word "bugger" a lot.

I have no problem with paying fees that are justified, I simply feel these particular fees are not.

Moral of the story - joint accounts are a bad idea, especially when your other half is liable to do something like that.
