The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I find it quite alarming that somebody with the level of grammar and spelling that t-d-p displays is even allowed to sit advanced exams. And to blame such a low level of ability on stress just beggars belief.

Christ, I'm starting to sound like my parents....

My grammar is perfect and I still get picked on.

:(

(I had to spell check "grammar" there!)

Does that make grammatical sense?

Calm down... deep breaths... ignore the grammar brigade (!!), and Viv's double-postings. I don't pick on bad spelling, because I am always aware some distress may be being caused, e.g. if a person is dyslexic. Bet you can count really well! :-)

Why do people always trot this one out? Dyslexia is NOT an excuse for bad spelling. A dyslexic person may have difficulties with learning to spell in the way most of us do, but they should be (and when properly diagnosed, are) given methods and protocols to enable them to learn to spell. My son is classified as severely dyslexic and his spelling is as good as mine. He just learned it in a different way.

I always say, that some people, despite all the help in the World (my neighbour is one, i.e. dyslexic) still simply can't spell well. It's to do with the programming of the mind: guys are more likely to be better at maths, females at languages. I always think it's very sad to pick on a person who can't spell well: shows a lack of maturity and respect.

I don't agree that it shows anything in regard to maturity, but you would be right about respect in a way - given the opportunities available to everyone in this country, anyone who can't master basic spelling (and I'm not talking about people who have the occasional difficulty, I'm talking about people who consistently spell badly) doesn't deserve to be respected for their spelling. They may indeed have many fine qualities for which they should (and no doubt will) be respected, but why would you respect something which is bad when it has the opportunity to be good?

Like I said, I don't there is automatically the opportunity to be good. I, despite lots of assistance with maths, e.g., have remained "bad" at maths all my life. Laugh at me though about it, and I'll cheerfully break a calculator over your head.

Not being very good at maths is entirely different to not being able to write in your mother tongue properly.

No, I see what you're getting at - but I bet you can add 5+5. Or even 68+19. The standard of literacy (it's not all about spelling) we get on here sometimes is far far below that kind of level.
