The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Adam has created a topic in aled.info regarding the use of the word, "Nazis" by Chris this morning? I agree with Adam that it was not a good move.

What do you think? Will there be any comeback?

When? Why? It's a general derrogatory term. If Ex Mayor Ken can get away with it then I'm sure Chris can.

Something to do with jingles.... and Germans doing something...

Surely it depends on the context, and as I didn't hear the show this morning I can't comment. Anyone know what time it was in, I'll search for it?

If anything is done about those comments, then we do live in a pathetic world.

EDIT from memory it was around 9.20 mark Bonanzoid.

Chris' Nazi comment didn't really bother me, as he didn't just randomly say 'ALL GERMANS ARE NAZIS' or anything like that.

One thing which does bother me is when he insists on doing that ignorant 'oriental' caricature. No Chris, I hadn't noticed that people from the Far East pronounce l's as r's. How insightful!

Do you mean that clip from Big Brother which was actually spoken by an Oriental person? Don't ask me her name as I don't watch the show but I know that's where it's from...That's part of the reason it's funny as it plays up to the stereotype.

Naw, I mean whenever Chris does 'impressions' of Chinese people, usually the owners of his local takeaway...."Fwee dewivewy" and all that. Yawn.

I don't understand, do you find it racist, or boring? Personally I don't find it either. OK, it's not the funniest piece of material, but don't really think it's meant to be. Just kind of throw away remarks/comments.

I was asked to think of things stereotypically German the other day at work. All I could think of was sausages and Nazis. It might sound racist or offensive or summit, but seriously, what else are the Germans famous for?

Merc?

Agreed totally Chris. This kind of thing is getting right out of hand! Random remarks said in jest should be taken so!

Quite, it's a load of bollocks.

Putting their towels on the deckchairs on holiday.

Oddly, this was also raised, but since Id never heard of it, I figured it was nonsense.

Sauerkraut. Which also happens to be one of the names I call my German mother. Well, that and "Eva Braun."

I always laugh when I see someone wearing socks and sandals. Apparently that's an English thing too?

All nations have stereotyped characteristics to a certain extent, and there's no harm in using that for a bit of mickey-taking in my view. When somebody hijacks that in a deliberate attempt to offend or insult, then that's an entirely different matter. The difficulty for many people of course, is to see where the line between the two is.

The Germans are some of the best Glider designers in the world. They weren't allowed powered aircraft after the war and had to spend their time with gliders. Even to this day they are still the best. Oh and Lederhosen and beer festivals.
